Movies I Love: True Romance
Today's F This Movie! entry was originally going to be a review of The Master, the new movie from Paul Thomas Anderson that's due out in about a month. But then Tony Scott got diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor (or maybe he didn't) and chose to jump off a bridge and kill himself rather than wait to die, and it seemed like I should write something about it. He wasn't a filmmaker that always meant a lot to me, but he did make one movie that means more to me than most. For that, I will forever be grateful.

I have always felt a little sorry for Barry Sonnenfeld’s Big Trouble. I guess like most things related to comedy, it’s all in the timing.

I'll Watch Anything: Patrick Sees The Movie Orgy
With the ever-increasing availability of old and obscure titles on home video -- from VHS to DVD to instant streaming -- there are fewer and fewer Holy Grails of cinema. London After Midnight. Orson Welles' original cut of The Magnificent Ambersons. That movie where Jerry Lewis dresses up like a clown and lures kids into Nazi death camps. For me, it has always been Joe Dante's The Movie Orgy.

Sometimes you see an older film and it just sticks with you ... or it reminds you of what contempt current filmmakers have for their audiences.

Review: Total Recall
It seems like a lot of the discussion over Len Wiseman's new remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi classic Total Recall boils down to "Is it better than the original?" That's the wrong question. How it compares to the original is irrelevant. The question we should be asking is "Is it a good movie?"
The answer is no. Not really.
