That is but one of many relatable lines of dialogue and actions in this movie.

I know this is specific to me, but the part where Gus is explaining how he feels like no girl wants to be intimate with a guy with one leg hit home for me. I don't know how much I have divulged this on the site, but I have a physical disability called Spina Bifida that affects my ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. While it's not exactly the same as missing a leg, the concept of being ignored or not being given a chance (whether it's sex or just relationships in general) because of an uncontrollable mality is something with which I can really identify. I have frequently felt like I am not given a fair shot, when in reality I am a perfectly good and decent person in many ways, I just have some minor issues. So yeah, that really struck me. But there are a ton more things that struck me or that I loved in this movie. I can't name them all. My grandmother is currently battling lung cancer, so that probably made the movie more real to me as well.

Sorry about the sad sack stories, but I thought they were worth telling to give some context to my appreciation of this movie.John Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08810774557887719483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-22809435365950404082014-06-09T14:57:43.463-05:002014-06-09T14:57:43.463-05:00This movie was so close for me, but the musical sc...This movie was so close for me, but the musical score felt out of place most of the time to the point of distraction. It's much the same reason why I really like (500) Days of Summer (interesting that it's the same writing team). I believed everything that those characters said and did. The story's ability to avoid being overly cliche helped a lot, too. It will surly remain as one of my favorite movies of the year. And I second your plea to everyone to check any reservations you might have at the door and see this one. It may be an emotional gut punch, but it's a very good one.John Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08810774557887719483noreply@blogger.com
