I was touched by Jan's segment and especially those with the family of your friend, Alexa Rodheim. I can imagine it was so much behind-the-scenes work to pull the whole thing off, whew! So impressed that you made it so far without way more technical difficulties.

Just wanted to get it off my chest that I watched Videodrome a few times last week. I really liked it and found it strangely comforting? Here's why I think I liked it so much, in order of significance (SPOILERS!!): 1) I thought the ending was BEAUTIFUL and spiritual. I realize Cronenberg's belief was that physical death is the absolute end, but well, his whole movie deals with connection, "the tones" of things, "frequencies", and transformation. So it felt natural to interpret the death of Max's body as another transformation. Even James Woods talked about Max's scene watching Niki getting strangled as a catalyst for Max's subsequent "spirituality". I understand the ending could have been interpreted as annihilation by Videodrome, but it just didn't feel that way to me, it didn't have that "tone" :) It felt rather beautiful and hopeful to me, and the movie clearly about life beyond form and structure and even death, even though Cronenberg himself might disagree.

2) Cronenberg's also examining some rules here - like the "medium is the message", and "what you contemplate you become". And those are like cause and effect rules that make sense to me, and make order and make all the things that happen in the movie kind of understandable...and less scary, less "out of left field". Maybe things that are scary are things that are...not well understood?

3) James Woods is SO likable here. The perfect protagonist, and with such transparent and innocent looking eyes.

I watched A Dangerous Method, too, and how dare David Cronenberg change Viggo Mortensen's face. That's criminal. Morally wrong, David Cronenberg! Morally wrong.
Meredith https://www.blogger.com/profile/11361935408436355904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-46894259586150986492016-07-10T18:44:03.764-05:002016-07-10T18:44:03.764-05:00Don't worry Sol. The segments with the usual suspects were gold as usual but the celebrity interviews were really something special. You kept it fun and friendly with just the right amount of journalistic discipline to evoke some really interesting discussions - super impressive - you're really good at it.

On another note, I got a not undeserved "fuck you" from Patrick at one point in the chat that I hope wasn't serious but to explain: I had just listened to the FTM commentary on Maximum Overdrive during Junesploitation and your hatred for it appeared both fast and furious so I was just saying your suggestion to Joe that you might reevaulate your opinion based on his article was comparable to, um, putting his, um, penis, in your mouth. Funny, right? Look, it was a super blue room I was playing, okay? I apologize, I hope there are no hard feelings and maybe I'm looking to deep into this but a "fuck you" without a winky emoticon or something is cause for concern. Buds?

Anyway, Patrick - amazing, my admiration knows no bounds. FTM Cast & Crew - ditto - you went LIVE and didn't miss a beat. Fellow F-Heads - you're a bunch of filthy, generous animals, you disgust me and I love you.

Same time next weekend?Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114869401584310369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-42558907234546779722016-07-10T13:09:41.359-05:002016-07-10T13:09:41.359-05:00So many memes, so many dick jokes, so many scoldin...So many memes, so many dick jokes, so many scoldings from Patrick about our dick jokes...

Listened for as long as I could before passing out.
