Now I haven't seen Rapid Fire but, The Hunted is the epitome of overlooked gems and is really how action movies should be it's not cheesy at all, mostly realistic, and is absolutely intense! They don't waste anytime on filming anything unessecary and I like how they don't use too much music in the movie. The fight scenes have no music it's just them and the background and that is how it should be no heavy metal bullshit action sequences. Great acting from Del Toro he's a perfect killer and who doesn't love Tommy Lee Jones? Die Hard 2 is a pretty terrific sequel. I love Ted Levine as the bad guy in Nowhere to Run. I'm telling ya, those down in the country action movies are the best.

Would you consider Judge Dredd to be underrated? I think that one is a lot of fun and gets dumped on quite a bit. Way of the Gun, Lockout (Guy Pierce paying homage to Snake Plissken, I loved it) and Rapid Fire is a classic. I would add - Showdown in Little Tokyo, Last Boy Scout (don't know if that was underrated?) and the movie I have been waiting for you to give the heavy action treatment to - Jeff Speakman is: THE PERFECT WEAPON! Still do.

Extreme Prejudice is SO. MUCH. FUN. Love it. Especially 1) the way Lou Diamond turns his hat around when the shit's about to go down and 2) the fantastic cast -- all it's missing is William Forsythe and Clancy Brown.

Lockout (in a mystery bound to puzzle filmatists til the end of time) somehow manages the trick of being a not-very-good movie that is ridiculously watchable due to the one, the only, Guy Fucking Pearce. More enterprising souls could take the time to do the math, but I suspect that 99% of his dialogue consists of entertaining quips, made excellent by his delivery. One of my favorite pastimes is starting arguments by saying "since L.A. Confidential, Guy Pearce has proven himself to be a better actor than Russell Crowe."

Superb list, Patrick. Any fan of Heavy Action could not go wrong by watching any one of these.

AJ Mullerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06987730338809078456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-3522673784097605682014-05-01T12:54:47.282-05:002014-05-01T12:54:47.282-05:00I may be in for a lot of hidden action gems in the...I may be in for a lot of hidden action gems in the next few days, because I have seen exactly zero of these movies.John Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08810774557887719483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-34720577629480805672014-05-01T12:24:27.200-05:002014-05-01T12:24:27.200-05:00I caught Rapid Fire based on your #HeavyAction art...I caught Rapid Fire based on your #HeavyAction article a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. I score an 8/10 on your current list.. will have to add Extreme Justice and Pistol Whipped (Mmmm.. pistol whip) to the queue. I agree with all of your choices except Die Hard 2. While I still like it, there is something empty about it, and the abundance of annoying characters just wears me down each time I watch it. Nowhere to Run is due for a comeback, hopefully you have kicked off the movement because it is SO GOOD.Matt Sollenbergerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02088555561067804979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-32509866440319353102014-05-01T08:24:24.954-05:002014-05-01T08:24:24.954-05:00I was so close! I've seen nine of the ten movies listed, and you can bet your three seashells I'll be seeking out Nowhere to Run, the only one I haven't seen, ASAFrigginP.

I actually really like Eduardo Noriega in The Last Stand, but I think he's one of those guys who's just fun to watch in anything. He makes some weird choices and I enjoy that. Also really excited to see some love for Rapid Fire, such a fun movie (and I still think Powers Boothe has one of the best voices of all time, I could listen to him talk all day. Anybody remember when he played Philip Marlowe on an HBO series? I don't get how his voice narrating a well-made noir series didn't win all of the Emmys. All of them). Viva Dwight H.
