Limiting it just comedies, that year I had seen Anger Management, Dickie Roberts and My Boss's Daughter before seeing School of Rock. I realized during the movie just how bad my other choices had been. School of Rock was a breath of fresh air. It helped that I was already a fan of Black going in (from Saving Silverman; I said I was just beginning to develop some taste), but mostly it was just that School of Rock is everything you guys said.

I still am a huge Jack Black fan and I think this is his best outing as the star of a kids movie. Which I didn't realize until now that he done enough of them for it to be a sizeable portion of his body of work between this, Gulliver's Travels, Kung Fu Panda, Goosebumps and sort of Jumanji. I think he works best as part of an ensemble, like in Jumanji, Tropic Thunder, or The Big Year (I believe I am the only person that likes that movie and I'm fine with that). Or it might just be when he works with Linklater, because he is also great in Bernie.

Great show.Scott Skocyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16481902978617982142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-41874945223735072022018-07-20T16:45:02.839-05:002018-07-20T16:45:02.839-05:00I wouldn't go into Tenacious D the movie expec...I wouldn't go into Tenacious D the movie expecting it to be "good;" it is mostly an excuse to string together about a dozen songs with two or three inspired bits in there amidst a bunch of trash. The ending credits are the best with it just being a long 5-6 shot of him riffing with the kids.
When mentioning some other movies Black has been in, you missed Be Kind Rewind, which is my favourite movie he's in. It's funny, and is just a heartwarming tale about some people that love movies. Also, forgive me, but I (and only 2 dozen others, apparently) liked Nacho Libre.
I like Black best when he steers clear of the "playing the guitar and singing funny stuff" trope (I really hate musical comedy.) In School Of Rock, however, it's done really well, in that it's not just stuck in to deliver jokes, but fits rather well into the plot.Paul Calverthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11748440093206090195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-74493591595889659022018-07-19T02:44:57.345-05:002018-07-19T02:44:57.345-05:00School Of Rock is one of my all time favorite film...School Of Rock is one of my all time favorite films. Alejandra, I agree with your love of that epic montage. I too love it. Because when I speak to my nieces and nephew about rock music I find myself getting lost in how passionate I am about it. And they soak it up! And that makes me proud because there's so many endless facets to Rock n' Roll, as to where Bubblegum Pop and Hip Hop (especially today's Hip Hop) are really only about one thing. There's nothing to branch off to with those 2 genres of music. So in that montage seeing the kid who plays the drums watching all the classic footage collage of all the greatest drummers in music, and he just seems so captivated by it! It truly is amazing. In high school, for 1 semester only, I took a class called Music 101. But really the only genre of music we learned about was Rock n' Roll. It was the most fun I had in high school. We watched Pink Floyd's Brick In The Wall, we watched The Beatles Anthology, "Tommy"from The Who. The teacher would ask all the students to bring in their favorite bands or rock artists on CD and play a track we'd all discuss what we thought, what we loved or didn't like. The first original is the foundation that could very easily have been the perfect stand alone horror classic, but also has that ability to allow for great sequels to follow. And Dream Warriors was one of my favorite sequels to the Nightmare franchise. It goes 1st film, New Nightmare, Dream Warriors, Freddy's Dead (not ashamed of this one).
