Judging from what I can surmise of your tastes, I think it would interest you and I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Similarly to Under the Skin, much of its power comes from what's not explained but only intuited.John Severahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12041582801138109430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-42229502146817237752016-10-14T06:51:06.611-05:002016-10-14T06:51:06.611-05:00Great write up. I remember knowing I'd seen something special, but couldn't put my finger on it. But, I've been thinking about it for over a year, so it obviously had an affect on me. Just shot up to the top of the rewatch list.Frank Levesquehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02326363930618703504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-45193869569983109562016-10-13T22:31:47.729-05:002016-10-13T22:31:47.729-05:00A big agree on the beach baby. I embrace it cuz it's just like real life - enigmatic and frequently terrifying!

It also contains about the most unsettling thing I've ever seen in a movie - that wailing baby alone on a beach at night devastates me.Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114869401584310369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-9454696144853720042016-10-13T13:38:44.559-05:002016-10-13T13:38:44.559-05:00You're on a roll, Cait. I was completely blown away by this film when I saw it in theaters and it's continued to grow on me with very repeat viewing.

I think that close up shot of the ant is one of the strangest, most beautiful shots I've seen in recent years and yet I can't even begin to explain why. The longer I've sat with this film, the more I agree with you that it is a masterpiece. Probably my favorite movie of the last 10 years.
I absolutely love the music. As soon as I saw it I ordered the album. Surprisingly realized I don't enjoy it very much divorced from the visuals and story. Oh well. I'll just have to watch it a couple times a year for the rest of my life. I'm definitely a fan of Glazer and I always defend "Birth" when people say the same kind of things like "it's boring". Sure, it's ambient and meditative, but those are qualities that many of my favorite films possess. A quiet sense of unease or even reflection (last Year at Marienbad is one of my favorite films ever and many people think of that as one of the slowest, most boring films ever.) Under the Skin saw Glazer take his approach to the next level and I can't wait to see what he does next. I just hope it doesn't take another 9 years.
