There have been some great, self-contained films that have a truly memorable character arc - like Brody in Jaws. The arc comes to a nifty, dramatic conclusion at film's end. The story is over...

Until the damn sequel, when all that carefully crafted work is shot to hell. Brody has to face his fears AGAIN in Jaws, Ellen Ripley has to face the alien AGAIN in Alien 3 (Aliens is the exception to my "hated sequel" rule), Laurie Strode has to get her whole damn head chopped off in Halloween Resurrections. Sometimes I wish producers would for once leave well enough alone and leave the money on the table.Steve K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02141959251034133806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-28508269369847105272016-07-12T09:15:41.789-05:002016-07-12T09:15:41.789-05:00Scorsese first did a "Vertigo shot" in R...Scorsese first did a "Vertigo shot" in Raging Bull, I believe - it's in the final fight between Jake and Sugar Ray Robinson, just before Robinson really goes to town on him...Steve K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02141959251034133806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-85089982224102305382016-07-12T05:19:34.099-05:002016-07-12T05:19:34.099-05:00I was referencing VERTIGO, yeah. I've always focused on the aspect of Brody I find most relatable - though I wasn't an outsider I was a more artistic kinda guy in a small hunting and fishing town and, not that he's artistic, but it's his ineptness in that context that stands out to me (I've been the Brody on a fishing boat). So for me he's always been a hero "in spite of" where you've highlighted the "because of" and I really appreciate that because, man, I love that character.Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114869401584310369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-81595435923558368602016-07-11T19:04:03.515-05:002016-07-11T19:04:03.515-05:00I should never write anything before my first cup ...I should never write anything before my first cup of coffee.
