In Danse Macabre, Stephen King talks about it being an "economic horror film," in that the real horror is that the couple has sunk all their money into this house that is now haunted and so unsellable. There are echoes of this in a scene in Conjuring too. The Conjuring also contains what I believe is a sly shout out to the Amityville incident-- at the end of the film, the Warrens say they have to go "check out that house in Long Island." I believe they are referring here to the Amityville house!JBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17076030814908114779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-58222895643289667742013-07-22T22:27:40.761-05:002013-07-22T22:27:40.761-05:00fingers crossed they become the Indiana Jones of h... fingers crossed they become the Indiana Jones of horror for the next few years.

YES. I would love this.

Great review; you said exactly what I thought, but much more eloquently. Great call.

Insidious had a pretty great title card, too, but I liked how the one in The Conjuring added to the 70's vibe.

Sort of off-topic, but as for Death Sentence, I read the book not too long ago then immediately rewatched the movie and couldn't believe they kept the title because that's the only thing the book & movie had in common. Not one scene, situation, or even character seemed inspired by anything in the book, it seemed such an odd choice to claim otherwise.JPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17867827164062216789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-33817670205180535322013-07-22T13:10:11.699-05:002013-07-22T13:10:11.699-05:00Agreed! The second hour becomes very conventional-- perhaps because the filmmakers are maintaining that all of this actually happened. I thought it owed a bit to the original Amityville Horror, the real-life case of which the Warrens also worked.JBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17076030814908114779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-10072048040105583272013-07-22T12:51:04.416-05:002013-07-22T12:51:04.416-05:00Loved this film. Definitely an ode (although not sure if it was intentional) to The Shining as it scrolls up the and takes over almost the entire screen.Chaybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00696179838579647187noreply@blogger.com
