It was fine but everything seemed too rushed to me, happening too fast over just 24 hours.
I found Gene Jones`Father not very menacing. To me he appeared more like a sleazy child molester with a mouth and tongue reminding me of Jabba the hut.
Maybe this didn´t worked that well for me, because I don´t believe in any kind of god or religion and so I may have no understanding for people like those in the Eden parish, leaving their lives behind to live a religious life outside of society.
So, it was ok but not much more.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-40937278159989767862014-05-07T13:46:43.757-05:002014-05-07T13:46:43.757-05:00We watched this over the weekend and I too am a bi...We watched this over the weekend and I too am a big fan of West, so far. Unlike many, I really liked House of the Devil and The Innkeepers even more. I really liked the Sacrament as well, but as you point towards in your review - this should have been shot as a regular movie. Everything was in place for it to be done so as such; the commune setting and lighting were perfect, so I kept asking myself while I was watching "why did they do it "found footage" style?! West's previous movies certainly had less of a budget than Eli Roth produced the Sacrament, and, like them or not, they looked beautiful. I do agree that it was not all the way found footage, as one thing that impressed me was the use of a score for the film, but it was close enough to being one. I hate to knock a star off simply because of the style it was shot in. There are very few that I think are handled perfectly (Gareth Evans segment of VHS 2 has now set the bar in my opinion) and although the Sacrament looked polished and handled it well, I was still left wondering why.

Lastly, Gene Jones who plays Father, blew me away (I had to look the actors name up, I'm not THAT good!) Seriously, I cannot think of anyone else who could have nailed that role and been so convincing. Maybe J.T. Walsh, but that's about it.

Great review as always man.Chaybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00696179838579647187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-11961225568671847552014-05-07T10:10:43.618-05:002014-05-07T10:10:43.618-05:00Sheeeeyit - had a great exchange with Lucky last n...Sheeeeyit - had a great exchange with Lucky last night on Twitter about The Woman - in particular the songs which he said were all written for the movie on location during the shoot (explains the perfect fit).

I haven't seen ACD yet but it was another for which I had high hopes - dammit.Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114869401584310369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-82936437668582051742014-05-07T10:01:47.719-05:002014-05-07T10:01:47.719-05:00Ummm...Ummm...Patrick Bromleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00771837625286775607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-52902870137990948232014-05-07T10:00:12.663-05:002014-05-07T10:00:12.663-05:00Not "All Cheerleaders Die" I hope!

I'm still going to watch it, but my hopes are nowhere near as high as they were when the project was first announced.
