Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Groundhog Day, and the Raimi Spider-Man films were definitely favorites.

But in the realm of actual children's films, Monster's Inc. is fucking awesome, as are a lot of Pixar movies. Beauty and the Beast is also fucking awesome, as are a lot of Disney movies.

ParaNorman, Sky High, The Lego Movie and My Neighbor Totoro are also the fuckin best thing since bread. I hate to be a debbie downer, but I thought Frozen was one of the worst movies, animated, kids, adult, whatever, that I have ever seen. Now, I did not know it was a full on musical when I watched it so maybe that had something to do with it, but either way I thought the songs were insufferable and the story was predictable and done before numerous times - even done at the SAME time by the same Studio- see Maleficent. I've only seen it once and don't have kids so my not liking the movie isn't based on overexposure and having the songs beaten in my head. I am also not a good judge of if the animation was any good or not. I know what kind of animation I like and to me, this just looked like everything else.

One a happy note - my Mom took me to see Ice Pirates in the theater as a kid. I barely remember the experience but I am super happy to have gotten that experience. My Mom was really hip now that I think about it - to name a few - she took me to Big Trouble in Little China, Beat Street, The Last Dragon, Buckaroo Banzai, and Time Bandits. So happy I was able to experience seeing things like that in the theater!Chaybeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00696179838579647187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-62095576396849383172015-01-23T15:06:53.206-06:002015-01-23T15:06:53.206-06:00I'm not sure why, but this made my day. The recalcitrant orb? Crack Head, of course (later renamed Bash Brain, a better name anyway).Matt Lohrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01375007982506565056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-45624920093678689582015-01-23T08:59:24.817-06:002015-01-23T08:59:24.817-06:00I'll give it a shot!

I really don't know if Ice Pirates works as a "kids" movie for anyone but me, mostly because I saw it at a young age and then didn't see it again for a long time. It just has that feeling to it. I'd watch it, I watched it via iTunes.Adam Thashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04413878182328418988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217427319662074458.post-28458981832446780952015-01-23T07:19:20.157-06:002015-01-23T07:19:20.157-06:00Hell yeah I remember Madballs and you've tempt...Hell yeah I remember Madballs and you've tempted me to go on eBay and buy some but damn, they're pretty expensive. Why didn't 7-year-old me just keep all of his toys in their packages and never play with them? I could be a rich asshole by now!

Frozen is great - I'm not sure how gender-picky little kids are but if my boy loves Frozen when he's 3 I'll feel like I've done a good job.

Adam, I think it's totally fair to grade kid's movies on a slightly different curve - sure, in the past 15 years or so parents and aunts and uncles and babysitters (and just plain move fans) have been blessed with a lot of ostensible "kid's movies" that can be fully enjoyed by adults and are "good" by any standard, but I think some things can only be fairly judged through children's eyes (see: The Goonies).

I somehow never saw Ice Pirates growing up - should I bother at this point or just let that one go? Maybe watch it with my kid when he's a little older?Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114869401584310369noreply@blogger.com
