So many horror movies coming to the drive in this Scary Movie Month!
Drive-In Theatre owners across the country have teamed up to celebrate classic horror films spanning eight decades with the "DRIVE-INS NEAR ME" Horrorfest taking place Sept.-Oct. 2025, including our friends Mike and Mia Kerz, owners of the Midway Drive-In in Sterling, IL. We are very excited about this Drive-In HorrorFest, as horror classics from each decade have been selected to represent each decade from the 1930s through the 2000s.

Drive-In Theatres across the country have teamed up to present the DRIVE-INS NEAR ME HORRORFEST. Participating Drive-In Theatres will show classic Horror films on the largest movie screens in the country throughout September and October. Drive-In Theatre owners have selected different movies to screen at their individual Drive-Ins, creating a wide-ranging variety of Horror Classics spanning eight decades! The themes are Marathons, Retrospectives, and Horror throughout the Decades!
HORROR MARATHONS AND RETROSPECTIVES AT A DRIVE-IN THEATRE NEAR YOU!
Drive-In Horror film series highlights will include a Sat. Oct. 11, 2025 "FRIDAY THE 13th" parts 1-7 Dusk to Dawn Marathon at the Quasar Drive-In including "FRIDAY THE 13th Part 3" in 3D! The Mahoning Drive-In has scheduled a month of October Horror Classics including a two night "HALLOWEEN - A THON" featuring "John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN" (1978), "HALLOWEEN II" (1981), "HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH" (1982), all on 35mm, and more! The Riverside Drive-In presents a Dusk to Dawn of 70's "Devil" cult classics including "MARK OF THE DEVIL”, (1970), "DEVIL TIMES FIVE" (1974), "THE DEVIL'S REIN" (1975), and "THE SENTINAL" (1977).
DRIVE-IN HORROR CLASSICS THROUGHOUT THE DECADES!
Get ready to road trip! Drive-In Theatre owners across the country have selected Horror Classics from each decade from the 1930's through the 2000's, to create the Ultimate Nationwide Outdoor Horror Film Festival! Each participating Drive-In is screening different horror classics including the following:
30's and 40's Universal Monster Classics
The Silvermoon Drive-In and the Mahoning Drive-In are screening extensive Universal Monsters retrospectives including "DRACULA" (1931), "FRANKENSTEIN" (1931), "BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN" (1935), "HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN" (1944), HOUSE OF DRACULA" (1945), and more!
50s Classics
Horror classics from the 50’s include the Hammer’s "CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN" (1957), "HOUSE OF WAX" (1953), and "REVENGE OF THE CREATURE" (1955).
60s Drive-In Classics
Drive-Ins pay tribute to two major forces at Drive-Ins during the 60’s! Roger Corman - "THE RAVEN" (1963), and “Herschell Gordan Lewis - "SCUM OF THE EARTH” (1963).
70's Cult Classics and Horror Masterworks!
Drive-In exploitation cult classics includes “SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN” (1970), "I DRINK YOUR BLOOD” (1971), Tobe Hooper’s “EATEN ALIVE" (1977), and the masterpieces “THE EXORCIST” (1974) and "John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN" (1978).
80s Golden Age of Horror
There was nothing like the Golden Age of 80’s Horror, and that wonderful era is heavily represented with “FRIDAY THE 13th” (1980), Sam Raimi's "THE EVIL DEAD" (1981) , Lucio Fulci's "THE BEYOND", the splatter classic "PIECES" (1982), John Carpenter Classics including "John Carpenter's THE THING" (1982) and “John Carpenter's CHRISTINE" (1983), "POLTERGEIST" (1982), "A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3" (1987), "FRIDAY THE 13th V" (1985), “FRIGHT NIGHT” (1985), "THE LOST BOYS" (1987), "CHILDS PLAY" (1988), "KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE" (1988), "RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD" (1985), and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original "RE-ANIMATOR" (1985) in 35mm, and screening its sequel "BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR" (1990), and many more!
90s “Re-Birth of Horror” Classics
The early 90’s saw a lull in Horror films. However, the Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson classic "SCREAM" (1996) resuscitated the horror genre in 1996 and kicked off a new wave of horror including "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER" (1997), "URBAN LEGEND" (1998), and “THE FACULTY" (1998).
2000s Modern Classics
Representing the 2000’s are Edgar Wright's classic "SHAUN OF THE DEAD" (2004), Rob Zombie's "THE DEVIL REJECTS" (2005), “HALLOWEEN" (2007), and "FREDDY VS. JASON" (2003).
SPECIAL HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES!
Continuing the Drive-In Theatre tradition of showmanship, select locations will feature spooky activities including haunted decorations, costume contests, roaming “monsters” for photo-ops, and horror flea markets selling horror movie memorabilia. Many Drive-Ins will also host community “TRUNK or TREAT” events for children and family friendly Halloween-themed movies.
