The Thing

Easily the best sci-fi horror flick out there, if not the best horror movie IN GENERAL (that's right). When Vance Norris' (Charles Hallahan) head grows legs and tries to walk away, Palmer (David Clennon) says what we're all thinking: "You gotta be fuckin' kidding." It's so good, that we [thankfully] forget about the pointless 2011 remake.

Alien

The other "best" sci-fi horror movie, and while I personally prefer The Thing, I also know/understand/contend/support the fact that this film rulez. It is revolutionary, creepy, groundbreaking, terrifying, mesmerizing ... and this trailer kicks ass too! And here I thought every preview from the '70s was garbage.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Release date: Dec. 20, 1978
Spock! A lot of people prefer the original 1956 version of this movie to the 1978 remake. And that's fine! To each his or her own, or some condescending crap like that. I like this version better, but probably because Donald Sutherland reminds me of my dad. Especially in Don't Look Now. Come to think of it, Julie Christie reminds me a lot of my mom. Hmmm ...
The Fly

The second movie on this list directed by David Cronenberg and featuring Jeff Goldblum. It's a sci-fi twofer! OFF-TOPIC RANT: remember when The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror used to be THE BEST THING ON TV? In 1997, the eighth installment of the special featured "Fly vs. Fly," a parody of The Fly, in which Bart swaps bodies with the eponymous insect. This year the show featured some dopey Cat in the Hat parody. You know, HORROR. I'm still a fan of the show; I just wished they put in a little more effort when it comes to these flagship episodes. /END OFF-TOPIC RANT. So, The Fly, you guys ... I mean, right?
