Weekend Weigh-in: What Movie are You Most Looking Forward to in December?

There are still a few weeks left in the year. Let's hope they're good.

2013 seems back-loaded with movies that should hopefully be excellent, which is important for those of us still struggling to fill out a Top 10 list. Which movie are you more excited about than any other?

  1. For me its a tie between "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and the Coen brothers "Inside Llewyn Davis".

Lots of interesting films though this month, it really is stacked. Almost an embarrassment of riches,

    1. I'm happy to read that the new Hobbit movie is supposed to be pretty decent, even among those who didn't love the first one. I am shocked they're bringing back that whole HFR thing for the new movie though. Will anyone even give it a chance this time?

  2. The Wolf of Wall Street is the big one for me, with Inside Llewyn Davis a close second. I hope Anchorman 2 is decent, but other than Christmas Vacation and A Shot in the Dark comedy sequels have a pretty much 100% failure rate so I'm not optimistic. Also, I'm already pretty sick of seeing Ron Burgundy every time I turn on my TV. I'm also curious about American Hustle, but I hope it turns out to be more than the Scorsese-themed costume party the trailers make it look like.

    1. I second or third (after Adam) "The Wolf of Wall Street". Any new offering from Marty is worth a look and some excitement.

I am a little worried about studio meddling however. I have read/heard that the film got caught up in a lot of production woes.

    2. Rumblings on twitter from those who have seen it seem pretty overwhelmingly positive. Frankly, as long as McConaughey's weird chant from the trailer makes it into the finished product it's pretty much already a win.

    3. JP...it's like you're reading my mind (re: comedy sequels). I will have much more to say about that topic this week. I'm super worried that Anchorman 2 will be a case of a movie believing it's own hype and seeming hopelessly smug.

  3. Ideally, this December should be an awesome month for movies. Between Inside Llewyn Davis, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, and Her, there's a lot to look forward to. I think those are the four movies that I am most excited to see this month.

    1. Oh, and I've heard and read good things about Saving Mr. Banks, so that movie has me at least curious, too.

    2. Okay now I'm SUPER excited to see American Hustle! Say what you will about this, but it's trending quite highly on Rotten Tomatoes, with a lot of the praise going to the awesome cast Russell assembled. I'm glad to hear the actors are as good a they seem like they should be (as if there were ever any doubt that would be the case).

  4. Definitely Inside Llewyn Davis. Seriously, how is that trailer so good? Although I'm extremely trepidacious about it, I'm also curious about Saving Mr. Banks. I think that this Christmas will be extremely rewarding.

  5. I can't wait for The Strange Color of your Body's Tears (limited release, at least in my part of the world). I loved loved loved Amer and can't wait to see more from the these directors. I am also REALLY looking forward to seeing American Hustle!

  6. For me its gotta be HER, Wolf of Wall Street, and the Disney movie Saving Mr Banks (but that ones just cause I work at Disney World.)

I wish I could say Anchorman 2 as well but I just get a bad feeling in my gut when I see the preview for that flick, not that I don't think it wont have any funny parts just the fact that it seems like the movie wont have a through line it will be just constant insanity which will eventually desensitize while watching it. In fact whenever I watch Anchorman now I gotta take breaks between watching, its best seen I believe a little at a time.

    1. Knowing you work at Disney World, obviously you live in or near Orlando. I live in Orlando, too. I think that's awesome!

    2. Same here: Her, WOWS and Saving Mr. Banks (just to see Tom Hanks play Uncle Walt, which from the commercials and trailer seems to be the film's highlight) are my must-see December films, but even the one's that aren't (Desolation of Smug, Inside Llewyn Davis, Walter Mitty, etc.) should make for some pleasant time of the movies. Don't really think a Top 10 entry is in the running though (I'm willing to be proven wrong) and, unlike Patrick, there's already an overabundance of films deserving of a top 10 spot. :)

    3. Inside Llewyn Davis has a very strong chance to make my top 10, as long as it's executed as well in fact as it seems to be in theory.

    4. Any new Coen Bros. movie is presumed to be awesome until it's actually watched and the presumption is confirmed ("Great Lebowski") or disproved ("Burn After Reading"). "Inside Llewyn Davis" is no different. :-)
