    1. I guess it's worth noting that he played famed rock music critic Lester Bangs in Almost Famous, my favorite movie of all time. He was an excellent talent, and it's a true shame he's gone

  2. My favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman performance: every Philip Seymour Hoffman performance.

  3. RIP to a first-rate actor. I'll be watching Boogie Nights, Mission Impossible III, and Almost Famous this week to celebrate his versatility.

  4. I was between movies (a theatrical screening of "Shane" and Godfrey Reggio's latest, "Visitors") when I heard the news, and I'd be lying if I said that the latter felt rather empty and hollow with the knowledge in my head that we've lost perhaps the greatest character actor of our generation. I mean, can anyone point to me a bad P.S. Hoffman performance? Off the top of my head I can't think of any, none. Even his paycheck roles (the villain in "M:I:III") were invested with the same commitment and skill as his indie and supporting roles. Can you picture anyone else playing the lead role in "The Master"? OMG, this is so sad! :-(

  5. Oh man, FTM breaks the bad news to me again - so sad to think of how many weird and/or wonderful performances we'll miss out on - his career was aging very well.

  6. A sad sad day in the world indeed. Not only did we lose one of the finest, most versatile actors working today, but we lost him in such a stupid, nonsensical way.
