  2. My first thought after listening is that I want to hear Stephanie on an episode with Heather Wixson. I'm not sure what the connection there is aside from both of them having an enthusiasm for horror that matches Patrick's.

  3. Great listen! And don't sweat not diggin' Jess Franco, he is known for disliking all of his own films and has said that he doesn't think he's ever made a good movie.

  4. I laughed pretty hard when Stephanie said the podcast was a Code Red episode. Love it when the podcast goes a bit more free form from time to time!

  5. Besides these, you could also try natural fabric softeners which are available in the majority of health food stores. Magnetic Laundry System These chemicals remain on your fabric and get released into the surroundings. The ones they give are tiny and flimsy.

  6. I watched "Don't Go In the House" late last year. Agree with Patrick and Stephanie, this is an above-average slasher that doubles down on the unique hook of being presented almost entirely from the perspective of the "Psycho"-inspired killer. I liked it, but like "Nightmare" (aka "Nightmare of a Damaged Brain") it's not one I see myself returning often for repeat viewings. It touches a handful of raw nerves in my horror-viewing brain I don't want to go back to. Guess it's a complement to the filmmakers that their cheap sleazy flick makes me feel that uncomfortable watching it.

  7. Oh, I totally have to see Marijoe (the documentary) now. I was pretty much completely unaware of that but it sounds fascinating. (And hey, my library has a copy!)

    1. Jess Franco tends to be a polarizing director. I am in the camp that enjoys his films, but I can completely understand those who are completely put off by them. Narrative is seldom the focus of a Franco film. With around 200 directing credits, there is inevitably going to be a lot of crap to wade through. (I then to avoid his films made after the early 1980s.) Franco's predilection for erotic themes and exhibiting the female body is another bar for appreciating his films.

Have you watched The DIABOLICAL DR. Z? This is probably Franco's best individual film. Dr. Z, though, is not his typical effort.

My favorite period of Franco's career is the late 1960s and early 1970s. I love the atmosphere and mood of VENUS IN FURS and VAMPYROS LESBOS. The original French cut of A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD is memorably melancholic. SHE KILLED IN ECSTASY is entertaining and stylish.
