  1. Interesting picks! The Witch is a masterpiece. February (Blackcoat's) is close to being one. Trick R' Treat is an absolute classic already. Very surprised to not hear Martyrs, The Strangers, A Tale of Two Sisters or Antichrist mentioned.

I would say The Witch, The Conjuring, Trick R' Treat, Martyrs and I Am a Ghost would probably be my five. I dunno, maybe High Tension is in there. Maybe The Signal (2007) Maybe Darling or We Are Still Here.
Geez, it's really, really hard to say and it's tough to do these kinds of lists so I applaud you all for attempting this. As always, I enjoyed listening!

    1. The Signal is woefully underrated. A LOT of people seem to dislike it, and the great majority haven't even seen or heard of it, so I don't know if it'll be talked about in 20 years. However, I'll still love it!

    2. You know, I guess "classic" is a little much for The Signal now that I think about it. I do, however, think it will be a cult classic. Something that will be re-discovered in 20 years and appreciated more.

  2. Got a chance to listen to the whole thing! Now I need to find time to see LET US PREY!

  3. Fun episode! I was chomping at the bit to jump in on the conversation. Some great choices...some I would probably have picked myself. Personally, I would have added Shaun of the Dead & The Orphanage to my list...and I do still truly believe that at some point people will come around and embrace the sheer brilliance of Seed of Chucky.

As usual, I do need to throw in a shameless plug...related to the episode. In my book "Scored to Death," composer Jeff Grace & I talk at length about working with Ti West and the scores for The House of the Devil & The Innkeepers. Also Larry Fessenden wrote the book's foreword...& Conjuring 2 composer Joseph Bishara discusses the music in the first Conjuring.

    Great stuff....as usual.

  4. Such a great idea for a podcast and it was just as fun. For me at least it was Cabin in the Woods that first got me into horror in the first place. Well that and FunHouse (thanks Patrick). It was that second half and the performances of Jenkins and Whitford that were just incredible. And this podcast was a great reminder for me to finally watch Starry Eyes and Innkeepers.

  5. Rob Zombie for life! yes, his movies are jarring, abrasive, mean, messy, rough around the edges etc, but they're their own thing and speak to his voice. There's no confusing a Zombie movie with anything that's out there. I want him to continue making the movies he wants to make and let the chips fall where they may.

I have some major Ti West to catch up with. I've only heard great things about House of the Devil. The Innkeepers didn't overly connect with me, I'll be watching it again for Scary Movie Month if not before. I did like The Sacrament.

Shout out to the Sing Street name drop during a horror podcast. That movie is everything.

Great to have new voices join the conversation as well and holy fuck are they funny on Twitter with their nonsense (in a good way) gif battles.

  6. Came home and started listening to this one. Started watching LIFE, with Martin Lawrence, and Eddie Murphy, and realized my worst nightmare is just bring trapped in space, so could the Martian be considered horror?

  7. Great show & great picks guys. I was hoping It Follows would make an appearance on someone's list, but I get why it wasn't. For my money, it's the best horror movie in maybe 20 years. I'm trying to think of a horror movie I've enjoyed more since like 1995 and I can't think of one. The only one close is We Are Still Here (what a homerun 2015 was, god damn.) I'd have to think hard to get a real top 5, but I'd like to throw out some love for Kill List and Inside, 2 of the most unsettling experiences of my life.

Side note, best part of the show was Ale's dog, who was barking nonstop the whole show, then like 70 minutes in Patrick just says "anyone else hear a dog?" Gold.

    1. Also, side note: about non-horror fans getting into Cabin in the Woods. I saw it the first Saturday with my friend Al, who is very much not a horror fan. He likes comedies and gangster movies. And he LOVED it. Maybe not as much as me, cause some of the specifics didn't land, but it's still funny without context. You don't need to have seen every Friday the 13th to laugh when the Harbinger gets upset that he's on speakerphone. As a horror fan, I didn't like that the movie gave away it's game so early, but I think that's necessary for non-horror fans to get into it.

  8. Great show. Already mentioned my love for the RZ defending. At the end of the show when you were talking about memorable horror movie characters or new icons, like Sam, Captain Spaulding is #1 for me. The rest of the family even including Tiny are there also. I always express this issue as "tattooable" characters. The Babadook is another one, especially after the weird but funny turn the last few weeks has had for that character.

But great show. Great guests. Still think The Devils Rejects podcast w/ Heather would make a great show as y'all talked about in passing last year.

  9. Man, I really enjoyed this show and these guests are terrific. Thanks guys!

I think Trick R' Treat is an especially good pick because so many people only watch horror movies in October and it is SUCH an October movie. It is so dripping in Halloween atmosphere that it's exactly what people want that time of year and that will not date. Also, The Witch is a movie that I think film classes will study so, yes, that's gonna last. It's unbelievably perfectly made.

  10. Another vote here for Rob Z, though I don't love all his films I do like his intentions and I can feel his love for genre

  13. Great podcast. Lots of good recommendations. Less dogs barking incessantly would have made it even better.

  14. Great picks guys! We need to add Dog Breath to the list. That was terrifying.
