Fun Fact: When I was in college I worked for the university library and part of my job was to clean the film reels for the Kinsey Collection. See it at a Marcus Skinemas.
Haha. It was mainly just putting the reels on these machines that ran them without any sort of projection. I watched one and it ended up being naked people playing doubles tennis. At least it was in black & white.
Ready Player One is definitely Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. there's even the song from the original movie in some of the trailers. and the premise is the same. it's just missing a character named Willy Wonka (though i don't know if he's in the background somewhere)
as for the box office. those chinese movies make solid banks. Box Office Mojo show some domestic gross, though very small compared to foreign (i.e. chinese). my thinking is that it was shown in the US, but only in some small theaters, probably located in chinatowns around the country.
It's always a bit frustrating to hear people talking about Ready Player One who haven't read the book, because I feel like at least half of the movie's problems come from its shitty source material (the book not the nostalgia)
here's something i just read about Infinity War. it's in french, and it's super long, but the gist of it is, why Thanos doesn't just replenish the resources (water, food, etc) instead of wiping half the universe
that's what's interesting with Thanos, his point is valid, he just wants to help the universe by getting rid of part of what's causing the resources problem. i don't think creating more resource would help anything. nobody would learn anything from it
anyway, it's defendable view of the whole thing, but not one i agree with
I love these episodes! And couldn't be better timing. I'm sitting in my car on a rain delay. This is just what I needed.

ReplyDelete“Cleaning the Kinsey reels” Is that a euphemism?

And as usual I feel that little bit smarter after a JB episode.
ReplyDeleteGreat Podcast & a fun listen but I Can Only Imagine is a Christian/gospel song not country & Monster Hunt isn't anime.
