  2. Terry Gilliam last movie was The Man Who Killed Don Quichotte, which was very good

Before that was Zero Theorem, which sucked

    1. I agree The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was a return to form for Gilliam and an awesome movie that seemed to not even be released and barely discussed. Worth seeking out, I loved it.

  3. So here's the thing about The Clonus Horror.
I watched it for Junesploitation and it will be in my top 10 discoveries of the year. I LOVED it. It's super creepy, super weird, super original and has an ending that would feel at home in a dark political paranoid thriller like Cutter's Way or The Parallax View. It made me angry that the movie is only remembered because of MST3K, because this movie isn't bad or funny - it's just low budget and it does a LOT with a little.

But The Island is not the same movie.

It's true, I'd be very surprised if the writer of The Island hadn't seen Clonus, because the concept and broad strokes of both movies are the same. But you're not going to come out of Clonus and think "why would I watch The Island when I can just watch this" the same way you wouldn't come out of Halloween and think all other slashers are redundant. The Island is a spectacle-filled action film where everything is cranked up to 10. Clonus is a slow, low-budget, creepy horror film filtered through the lens of a paranoid thriller. It has more in common thematically and tonally with the original Stepford Wives than it does with Bay's film.

So, not that anyone asked or cares, but y'all have my blessing to like The Island without feeling guilty. But check out Clonus just because it fucking rocks.

    1. I don't think the complaint is about the mood. Usually it's about the premisse or the basic idea of a movie

    2. Yeah, the screenwriter almost certainly ripped off the premise and that's a shitty thing to do... What I mean, though, is that I think there's room for both of these movies to exist and be appreciated without someone going "well actually" about Clonus.

  4. Chains of Gold went from a movie I've never heard of to #1 Must See Immediately!
