Count me among those who also experienced trauma from the “Land of Confusion” video. Seeing that thing is one of my earliest memories, and not in a good way.
ReplyDeleteA recommend for any He-Man fans, check out He-Man And The Masters Of The Multiverse. A comic where someone is going across the multiverse to kill different He-Mans so they can steal their power sword and become more and more powerful. So the Movie He-Man uses the key from the movie to travel to other realities and save different He-Mans. We see the original 80s reality, the version where it became a space adventure show and He-Man had pants, the 2000s cartoon, and a bunch more. It's a great read. Worth it.

As a kid this movie confused and disappointed me. But now after a lifetime of Marvel movies it makes more sense than Thor 2. And it clearly was seen as an Episode IV thing where we should already understand who He-Man is, what his powers are, what his sword does, who his companions are, what their abilities are...we know nothing, hah.
ReplyDeleteI certainly share the feeling of "There's seven movies I want to watch today, but it's a Tuesday". The anticipation and deciding which of the many movies to watch is one of the great things about Junesploitation.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the conversation about what makes Cannon movies so special. I can't put it into words, but they just make movies I like to watch. I too get genuinely excited when seeing the Cannon logo at the beginning of a movie.
I had never seen Masters of the Universe before. I really liked "Lieutenant Paris" in this, and glad he played a major role. Dolph was great as always, but it could have had more action and less running around. One thing I don't think you mentioned is that the opening theme song is NEARLY EXACTLY the Star Wars theme with a couple notes changed. I can't believe they got away with that.
