Looking forward to this. Especially the listener e-mail section! I also just realised I forgot to submit my listener e-mail.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me very sad to hear that Patrick’s students don’t respond favorably to movies of the ‘70s. For my money, it’s literally the greatest decade for movies ever.
ReplyDeleteI'm 45 and i'm wondering if we were like that at that age? I know i had my snobish period, when i only saw Truffaut or Bergman movies, but i can't remember if any my classmates or friends didn't like older movies?
DeleteSeconded. When one of my favorite former students went to film school about ten years ago, he told me the strange tale of his classmates being completely uninterested in older films. I was flabbergasted.
DeleteI mean, it's film school. Shouldn't they be a little interested?
DeleteYou’d think?
DeleteThis just in: Fathom Events will be showing William Friedkin’s The Exorcist in theaters nationwide on October 1st and 4th.
ReplyDeleteThis was an awesome listen, as always! I have more exposure to Friedkin's later work than his beginnings, but your discussion made me want to go on a marathon of his movies. I have seen The Exorcist exactly one time, at a Halloween party where other things were happening simultaneously. So that probably means I haven't watched it if we're being honest. I have not seen Sorcerer (I know!) and I just watched TL&DILA, which was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for paying tribute to one of the greats!
