Running Scared (1986): they don't make them like they used to, aren't they? The synopsis on IMDB says "two street-wise Chicago cops have to shake off some rust after returning from vacation...". Well, friends, that's the second half of the movie. There's almost an entire movie before that, showing us why they went away, which would be a 15 minutes sequence nowadays. Billy Crystal is clearly having fun playing snarky cop and waving guns around. And i need to watch more stuff with Gregory Hines. I never this one before, recommended by my TV, with ads every 10 minutes, and i like it a lot.
Iron Sky (2012): Nazis are hiding on the dark side of the moon and are planning a comeback. I mean, if that doesn't grab you, i don't know what you need. The movie is as bonkers as you think it is. I especially like the part where the Nazi girl realise Chaplin's The Dictator is not a 10 minutes short movie celebrating the nazis, but a full-length movie criticizing the regime. Very funny.
Iron Sky - The Coming Race (2019) then i watched the sequel, which somehow is even more nuts. At some point, there Hitler bursting through a door riding a t-rex. Also a carriage chase pulled by triceratops, because why not. I love it. I want more of it. Also, i forgot they were doing the Hollow Earth thing, which is now at the center of the current Godzilla/King Kong franchise
Super Troopers (2001): this is where i noticed Brian Cox the first time. I mean, i'm sure i saw him before, but that's when he got on my radar. Then he did X-Men 2 and Bourne Identity, and the rest is history. Also, the movie is the funniest thing from the early aughts. Broken Lizard, the comedy group who made it, also did a bunch of other movies, some good, some bad, but never on that level of funny to me.
I had to get a Region B blu-ray from eBay, which was a double-pack with the first movie, despite already owning the first movie on Region A blu-ray, but it was cheaper to get that than getting the sequel alone
GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) Watching this today versus watching it back in the '90s are two different experiences. It used to feel like something new and exciting, while today it feels, dare I say, quaint. Still a great film, though. One of these days, I'll read the manga. I promise.
LETHAL WEAPON 2 (1989) "Diplomatic immunity!!!"
ANNA (2019) I had a lot of fun with this, as it's an old-fashioned twisty-turny spy caper with a great cast. But then I learned a lot of unpleasantness happened during the making the movie, and now I don't know what to feel.
FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT (1940) Alfred Hitchcock goodness!
DUMBO (2019) I don't know. The first half is pretty good, with a relaxed but engaging pace. Once the story moves from the circus to the over-the-top steampunk city, the plot gets meandering and dull. I was mentally checked out by the time it got to the big action finale. (Does Dumbo's story even need an action finale?)
Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates! Cillian Murphy. Cillian Murphy's next project sounds good and makes me laugh. Because again, he's like in gang-land in a period piece. It's an interesting-sounding historical drama about coal miner unions so that's cool, and I'll definitely see it for that. But man, I will look forward to him switching things up someday. Because I know he's a good actor - and very good looking - but sometimes I wonder if he can switch it up.

Years ago I noticed Iron Sky streaming on Netflix but never got around to watching it.

DeleteI finally caught up with The Iron Claw a couple nights ago. That ending wrecked me. A movie has never made me cry like that before.

Hes such a great actor. He's only in the Nolan Batman flicks for a little bit but his take on Dr Crane is sooooooo good.
