Possibly my favorite Scorcese is Kundun, which is wildly underseen and undertalked.
ReplyDeleteI've owned the DVD for years and just haven't watched it yet. I need to! If only there was a surprise 4K already sitting on my shelf...
DeleteIf only. It's a beautiful movie too. Shot by Roger Deakins.
Delete“I’m so glad we don’t have to wait that long… End of summer and we already get part two”
ReplyDeleteThis part of the conversation on Horizon is heartbreaking in 2025. Rewatched it today and was struck that Costner is just pulling off one of the most audacious movies this side of 2000 with this charming casualness that is broken up with insanely dark and tense moments. Truly, truly, truly a master at work and everyone ignored it.
Apparently they can release four fucking Beatles movies in one month but we couldn’t get two westerns by one of GOATS in that genre in a summer?
As an aside, it’s like the casting director for that beatles shit heard Patrick say he’s more of a Stones guy and revenge cast Lennon and McCartney with the two guys that starred in some of his biggest dissapointments of 2024.
