    It might be a stretch (technically the main character isn't a private detective) but i think Confess, Fletch is one of the best
    modern investigation/detective movies.

    "The Nice Guys" has so many great lines but I think my favorite is...

    "You took the Lord's name in vain."

    "No I didn't, Janet. I found it very useful."
