Winner for “Best Supporting Actor” (Mickey Rourke) at the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards.• Best Scene/Moment: This is an ironic choice, but I love the first scene between Michael Madsen and Bruce Willis. Madsen sounds like he’s reading the dialogue backwards and for the first time. I heard in an interview that Madsen really didn’t like Willis when they shot this movie, so I wonder if he’s delivering amateurish line deliveries on purpose. In any event, it’s very memorable and makes me laugh every time.
• Best Song: The awesome Sin City theme. Music is by Robert Rodriguez, John Debney, and Graeme Revell.• Best Merch: A “Neca Sin City Nancy Wall Clock…” for $30.00. If you get this, you’ll know it’s Jessica Alba time, all the time. It’s relevant again now that she’s newly divorced and probably a day or two away from joining JDate? Monster.com? Where do people meet these days?
• Director Grade: Sin City was directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

• Double It with This 2005 Movie: Constantine
• Year 2005 Movies to Trailer Before Them: Batman Begins, Elektra, Fantastic Four
• Never Talk to Strangers or Sin City? Sin City.• Mall Movie? Movies don’t get more Mall Movie than Sin City.
• Only in 2005 (tie): A movie being all “LOOK HOW COOL DEVON AOKI IS!” and me enjoying a Nick Stahl performance.
• Scene Stealer (tie): Benicio Del Toro and Brittany Murphy.
• I Miss (tie): Brittany Murphy, Michael Clarke Duncan, Powers Boothe, and Rutger Hauer.
• I Don’t Miss (tie): Clive Owen’s narration voice and the people behind Miramax Films.
• 2005 Crush: Alexis Bledel.
• 2025 Crush: Carla Gugino.• What I Thought in 2005: I was all in on this movie. It looked great, it was cool, it had Alexis Bledel as you’ve never seen her before. Sin City was one of my favorite movies of 2005 and I saw it multiple times in theaters.
• What I Think in 2025: This is a young man’s movie for sure, but one I still find entertaining. I’m a sucker for anthologies and Sin City has two excellent segments (the Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis ones) and one average segment (the Clive Owen one). I’m still impressed with the look of the film and it’s fun going back and seeing a movie with this ensemble, many of whom are either no longer with us or not as prolific as they once were. Sin City was a better rewatch than I anticipated.
Okay as, someone who named his middle daughter Lorelei, I get how your 2005 crush was Alexis Bledel.
ReplyDeleteBut as a man with eyeballs I cannot understand how your 2005 crush wasn’t also Carla Gugino???
That said, I’m really hoping Adam saw The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy 20 years ago because I’d love to know his thoughts on an almost great movie based on a truly great book.
I did see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy back in 2005. I didn't get it but I also haven't read the book. Sorry to be a bummer.
