Nominated for zero awards. Winner of zero awards.• Best Scene/Moment: Mitch (John Francis Daley) telling off all of the other characters at the end of the movie is very satisfying because they all seem like the worst.
• Best Song (tie): “Callin’ Out” by Lyrics Born and “Here in Your Bedroom” by Goldfinger.• Best Merch: A “Waiting the movie NEVER USED LUNCH BOX…” for $55.00. This is such a weird promotional item. If you were a fan of the movie in 2005, you were probably too old to use a lunchbox (I apologize in advance if teens and adults use lunchboxes and I’m just not aware of it) and Waiting… is about a casual dine-in restaurant so what’s that got to do with lunchboxes?
• Director Grade: Waiting… was directed by Rob McKittrick.

Overall Grade: C-
• Double It with This 2005 Movie: Just Friends
• Year 2005 Movies to Trailer Before Them: The Dukes of Hazzard, The Longest Yard, The Ringer
• Never Talk to Strangers or Waiting…? Never Talk to Strangers• Mall Movie? It’s a comedy about slackers working in a chain restaurant so absolutely this is a mall movie.
• Only in 2005: Andy Milonakis.
• Scene Stealer (tie): Rob Benedict and Vanessa Lengies.
• I Miss: Anna Faris. She hasn’t been on-screen much lately.
• I Don’t Miss: Nick and T-Dog.
• 2005 Crush (tie): Vanessa Lengies and Wendie Malick.
• 2025 Crush (tie): Vanessa Lengies and Wendie Malick.• What I Thought in 2005: I don’t remember much about Waiting… but I think I enjoyed it when I saw it on DVD back in the day.
• What I Think in 2025: Yeah, this didn’t really work for me. A lot of the humor hasn’t aged well, and Ryan Reynolds’s shtick was more enjoyable twenty years ago before he became insufferable. Waiting… worked best for me as a time capsule reminder of how much crude frat boy comedies ruled cinema back in the early to mid-2000s.
Have you looked at John Francis Daley's filmography? It's kinda impressive. He wrote and directed a bunch of stuff, including the last Dungeons and Dragons movie
ReplyDeleteI have. I like Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons
DeleteHe's always going to be the Freaks & Geeks kid to me :-)
I didn't go away to college in the traditional sense and worked in bars for nearly 20 years. While Waiting has it's problems I think about it a lot because it really does capture what that world was like at times.
ReplyDeleteYeah you can definitely tell the writer-director was coming from a place of personal experience. Comedy has changed so much since 2005 that it's just jarring to revisit what the consensus agreed was funny back then.
DeleteYES! MORE GOLDFINGER!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd my brother has a friend who has an entire room in his house dedicated to his lunchbox collection. And it’s not a small room. He has more money than he knows what to do with so… he probably has this box.
looooove that band!
