Spartan never got a proper blu-ray release, and it always bugged me. I had to get a german edition
ReplyDeleteHaven't listened yet, but I hope you talk about Thunderheart (1992). I just watched it this week, and thought it was a great neo-western with Kilmer and the great Graham Greene.
ReplyDeleteSince y’all get into some FthisTVSHOW discussion and mention Babylon I’ll say I’m one of those misguided folks who loves it, but after watching the first episode of The Studio I felt like I understood the movie you guys see it as. I was considering hate watching it for the supporting cast and dopamine inducing cameos but once I saw that the second episode wanted us to be impressed they filmed it all in one shot in 2025 I just couldn’t.
ReplyDeleteRIP to one of the greatest to ever do it. I appreciate y’all going for deep cuts. I definitely am going to check out Kill Me Again!
Howdy Val fans. FYI: if you'd like to hear some Val stories from a few folks that cared about him a lot, check out the episode of the Seth Meyers and Lonely Island Podcast that dropped 4/15. Its titled "MacGruber: Remembering Val Kilmer. Its a great discussion with Seth, movie director Jorma Tacome, writer john solomon, and movie lead Will Forte.
ReplyDeleteThey tell a BUNCH of crazy eclectic, entertaining, and endearing stories about Val. Nothing from a place of derision or shaming is eccentricities. Lots of love and lots of laughs.
You know how when someone is trying to describe someone as being super generous and uses the saying "he'd give you the shirt off his back?". Well one of the stories Will shared was walking on set one day and complimenting Vals shirt as very much his own style. Val took it off, handed it to him, and sat down shirtless. Amazing.
Thanks for the recommend Mashke! I just listened and wow. The stories from Kilmer and Forte living together were amazing.
Delete@William. Right!?! All the stories were told from a place of love but also are just hilarious! "I thought he would stay just for a few days...and then his assistant dropped off two GIANT duffel bags of books". LOL.
DeleteThey sounded like college kids. The mildew pillow and picturing kilmer in the dark with a head lamp reading on his room. And as Seth Meyers points out, the whole situation sounds like an odd couple sketch.
DeleteAnd as for how much they clearly love him Jorma said it best. That Val formed so many bonds with people on so many different levels (can’t remember exactly but he listed a bunch like artistically, personally, spiritually) and just how honored they all were to be a part of that group.
Also the way that the IRS kept popping up as this overarching arch-nemesis for the latter half of his life and that Kilmer was constantly on the verge of losing everything and yet was completely zen… Sounds like a certain caped crusader.
