My friends Mike and Mia Kerz, who run my beloved Flashback Weekend every summer, also own and operate the Midway Drive-in in Dixon, IL, the best of all the drive-ins we've visited. I don't go as often as I'd like, but love the drive-in not just for keeping theatrical exhibition alive during COVID (when we frequented the drive-in the most) but also because they play such a role in the history of horror and exploitation -- the kinds of movies we're celebrating all month long during Junesploitation. Many drive-in theaters (the Midway included, who are running a dusk-to-dawn John Carpenter fest at the end of this month) are still programming special events like all-night horror marathons to sell-out crowds. The drive in will never die!
If you've ever dreamed of owning your own drive-in and programming all the crazy all-nighters you can think of, now's the time to get serious about it. As the current crop of drive-in owners are looking to retire and sell, there's room for the next generation to come in and take over. That's the campaign that we're sharing today!
From the press release:
Drive-In Theatre owners have created a new website, www.driveinsnearme.com, and are looking for
the Next Generation of Drive-In Owners! Several Drive-In Theatres are for sale by owners seeking to
retire and more Drive-In Theatres are expected to go on sale within the next decade as more owners
retire. You have the opportunity to carry on the great tradition of the Drive-In Theatre!
This is a moment for supporters of the Drive-In experience to take the step into Drive-In Theatre
ownership. Drive-Ins play first-run blockbusters to huge crowds. Drive-Ins are sought after by movie
lovers, with many Drive-In fans driving a great distance to visit a Drive-In Theatre.
While Drive-In Theatres have a nostalgic history, they have boldly leaped into the 21st Century!
Drive-In Theatres now combine the nostalgic outdoor movie-going experience with modern state of
the art technology including bright digital projection, digital stereo sound, and the largest screens in
the country.
The Drive-In website www.driveinsnearme.com contains a list of existing Drive-In Theatres for sale. If
you wish to build your own Drive-In, Drive-Ins Near Me offers information on how to do that as well!
The Drive-In Theatre owners organization UDITOA (The United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association)
and Mobile Moviegoing have teamed up to create this definitive Drive-In website
www.driveinsnearme.com which unites the nearly 300 Drive-In Theatres located across the globe!
The site features listings of Drive-Ins and search functions allowing movie-goers to locate Drive-In
Drive-Ins Near Me will provide a community for Drive-In enthusiasts including social media for
connecting with other Drive-In fans and Drive-In Theatre owners, a history of Drive-In Theatres,
updates on Drive-In events across the country, and a blog by Drive-In owners.
“Get social” and visit www.driveinsnearme.com and like and follow all of our official Drive-Ins Near Me
