  2. Great ep dudes!!! Love all the great movie discussion and review!
    Couple rando observations:

While not an official remake/reboot, The Sand is indeed, as JB called out, absolutely 'borrowed' from the 80s video store horror staple Blood Beach. Blood Beach may be one of the weirdest (read: Laziest) of the Jaws sharksploitation rip offs. The premise is "ok we all love Jaws and are clearly gonna rip it off BUT shooting on the water is expensive right? Lets just copy the idea of scenes like the girl being pulled under in the opening or the kintner kid dying and just move them 10 feet IN SHORE! they can get sucked into the sand! We dont need to explain anything and can just show some sh@tty poorly lit artichoke meets venus flytrap monster! Brilliant!"

Friendship: I am a very big fan of Tim Robin's bizzaro comedy show "I Think You Should Leave". I love the quirky/awkward/uncomfortable character stuff. I absolutely HATED this movie. Yes its got a few scenes where Tim flexes his skills as doing the wrong thing in a heightened fashion but otherwise most of the runtime is a slow and realllllllly depressing environment filled with cancer recovery, failing marriage, mental decline, levels of infidelity, and malaise/sadness abound. I think the scriptwriter/director felt they needed to push all this drama/sadness to make the uncomfortable stuff play better as its would be seen as more extreme...however for me it had the opposite effect. In the end i suppose im just not one for feature length "dark" (read: sad drama) comedies. I know by and large most folks are really connecting with this as a comedy, so i think im in the minority.

    1. Felt the same about Friendship. I like his tv show, so I was sure I would like the movie. My friend loved it and basically ordered me to watch it. I think he hyped me too much because I didn't care about it

    2. @kunider Thanks for sharing your experience. Im bummed i didnt connect as i reallly like the premise and the execution of the characters by Robinson and Rudd but in the end maybe..at least for me...its all way better served in the small sketch format which doesnt allow for all the dour drama within.
