Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Jan. 3)

Happy New Year, F-Heads! Let's all welcome 2014 with this surprisingly well-made trailer mashup, courtesy of Mark Brandon. THE FUTURE IS NOW!

The Other Woman
Release date: April 25, 2014

Fuck you.

The Expendables 3
Release date: Aug. 15, 2014

What a weird teaser. Sure, there's no film "in the can" yet (you are impressed by my intimate knowledge of industry jargon), but are we supposed to be excited at the sight of Stallone's silhouetted beret? Also -- and this one's directed at you, Lionsgate -- put the actors' names above their respective faces! If the contract states a specific name order, then try to arrange them in that order! I had to make the video HD, expand it, pause it when they turn around and then scan the crowd in order to find Harrison Ford. Why are you making me work so hard? TO FIND HARRISON FORD?

Welcome to Yesterday

I like time travel movies. I do. And I like teen movies. It's well documented on this site. So I should like this movie. Right?

    1. I would highly recommend people check out The Trailer Park Boys TV show (available on Netflix I believe) - it's a documentary-style show that predates The Office - Seasons 2-5 in particular are pretty awesome. It's a cultural phenomenon in Canada and it's shot in and around Halifax so they're hometown heroes of mine. I'd be interested to hear if the characters are relatable in other countries as well!

The movies are okay but certainly not as good as the show in its hay day.

On a totally unrelated topic, Doug - I finally got around to watching It's a Wonderful Life and I really, really loved it - goddamn James Stewart was the best. I was surprised both by how un-Christmas-y and all-around great it is. I can totally see why it's your favourite movie - it's now one of mine.

    2. I'll have to check out the TV show, but I'd be lying if I said that wasn't an awful trailer.

So glad you finally got to see IaWL! Moreover, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Last year, JB and I (and our wives) got a chance to see a digital 4K print at the Patio Theater in Chicago, and it was a great experience.

    3. Heheh - it kind of works in the context of the show. If you (or anyone else) do actually check it out I would implore you to stick it out past the first season (which is only like six 22-minute episodes anyway) and give the characters and vibe a chance to grow on you. I'm a discerning enough TV watcher that, though I'm likely to not like something that is actually good, most things I do really like are genuinely really good. Cultural barrier is the only thing that gives me some pause.

I would definitely jump on a chance to see just about any theatrical presentation of IaWL - I thought the blu-ray looked great so I'm sure what you saw was awesome. Just out of curiousity have you ever watched the colourized version? I'm hesitant to for some reason...
