  1. Gabby and I are very slowly (entirely my fault) working on a piece about The Majestic and The Fisher King, two of my exploding heart movies. Can't wait to hear this!

    2. We are indeed! Great podcast guys. I am glad to hear that Patrick had an issue with the way McCarthism was used in the film. I studied it in history and the first time I saw the film, it really bothered me. I like the movie as there are several things in it that worked for me a lot. But I do have my problems with it.

  2. I've never seen The Majestic. In fact, the only Darabont movies I've seen from Darabont are The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, so I guess I've seen the two extremes of his career (but I don't even really remember disliking The Green Mile). I think I got turned off from checking out The Majestic from the lackluster reception it was getting. Maybe someday I'll look into it as a curiosity. At any rate, great show! The Nolte impressions were cracking me up!

Also, since you briefly mentioned it in passing, the Dumb and Dumber To trailer is bad, right? I just feel like they are going for more gross out humor, which I don't feel is what made the original movie great. I don't know, perhaps it will be better than the trailer suggests, but my interest in that movie has dwindled considerably at this point.

    1. Thanks John and happy birthday! I don't dislike The Green Mile. It's just not something I ever feel like revisiting probably because if I'm in the mood for that kind of movie, I would just watch The Shawshank Redemption.

I want Dumb and Dumber To to be good but it looks like an SNL sketch where the actors "play" their famous roles again. Maybe the gags will be better than the trailer suggests though but of what we've seen...yeeesh!!!

    2. Thank you, Adam! I appreciate it! :)

And I agreee on your assessment of Dumb and Dumber To. All of the gags that they show, at least to me, look inferior to anything that's in the original. It doesn't inspire much confidence.

  3. Cool Podcast as usual guys. I think I'm in the Adam camp on this movie, its cheesy but it feels like its heart is in such the right place I'm able to overlook the faults of this movie with the Mccarthyism and the corny moments. As to Dumb and Dumber To I want to be proven wrong but man the Farrelly brothers haven't done a good film since 2005's Fever Pitch nine years ago. Sadly I think the dusty grandma vagina is a sign their best times are behind them.

  4. "The real victim of 9/11 was The Majestic" (Adam Riske, F This Movie)

  5. You guys touched on this in the podcast, but the fact is that this movie was directly promoted as a reaction/antidote to 9/11. Commercials featured an out of character Jim Carrey sitting in front of a fireplace saying something to the effect of 'Isn't it time to go back to the movies...' Totally cloying, creepy and in extremely bad taste. I looked on the YouTubes but couldn't find any version of the commercial but I'm fairly certain of the content and my gut reaction to promoting the film that way.
