    1. I enjoyed The Player, too. I haven't seen it in several years, but I remember liking it, which is probably saying something because I'm not the biggest Altman fan in general.

  3. Great list guys - I've seen most (really need to see Collateral sometime - seems to get a lot of praise around here) - I'd add the Terminator movies! I assume Doug is prepping for the War of the Machines as we speak!

    1. I rewatched the original Terminator over the weekend. Every time I see it I'm convinced more and more it's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's so, so good.

    2. I know, eh? I really do love it - did you watch the newly remastered blu-ray? Looks fantastic!

    3. I was introduced to the series through T2, and then the subsequent sequels and TV show. Caught Terminator on cable a few times back in the '90s, but had not seen it since. Finally picked up a copy a few years ago, and seeing the full, uninterrupted theatrical version was a moving experience -- like watching a historical archive of a pop culture origin story. Compared to some of the sequels, that movie is almost Shakespeare.

    4. Compared to most MOVIES that movie is almost Shakespeare. I still like T2 for its invention and amazing action scenes, but 14-year old me was totally wrong to think it's a better movie.

I WAS watching the remastered Blu-ray, and it's great.

    5. Upon one chilling summer's eve,
Approached the brute with haunting stare.
'twas evident for all to see,
Laundry day; not a thing to wear.

    6. I would certainly recommend seeking out Collateral, Sol. The last bit of it goes kind of crazy, as I recall, but it's an awesome movie overall. Foxx and Cruise are both great, and it's really interesting to see Cruise give a rare villain performance.

  4. Oh my… Bobby D J… Michael Bay to reboot "Boogie Nights" as a modern PG-13 film… L.A. Doug believing Bill Maher still has a show called "Politically Incorrect"… so much zaniness for a person to take first thing in the morning.

    Hilarious, guys--as always.

But don't forget that Michael Mann's "Heat" was already a remake of his own TV Movie "L.A. Takedown".

So many movies take place in and around L.A. in order to keep their production costs down. Be fun to see you guys take on other parts of the country too. Movies in the Pacific Northwest… Movies in Chicago, etc.

  5. Drive (2011) shows a grittier side of LA, too. Also add Steve Martin's LA Story, Bowfinger (with two of Eddie Murphy's best performances), and The Jerk.

  6. I'm very glad that you mentioned Jackie Brown.

Also, The Big Lebowski is a fantastic LA movie.

  7. No mention of LA Confidential or Get Shorty? I don't know what you have against Danny DeVito; is it because he got a hold of Rhea Perlman before you got a chance at her?
