  1. Love this podcast guys! I really dug your thoughts. Totally agree with the sound design of Sinister and The Strangers. Makes those movies so much better. The Conjuring sound is amazing as well. High Tension also has some great moments with sound. I was showing it to my buddy and he jumped at a loud, chirping cricket in the back right speaker! :)

Speaking of High Tension - that is the one film that should be remade or, fuck it, just recut and get rid of that stupid ending. Totally cheapens that film. Without that "twist" High Tension is a masterpiece, in my opinion.

I am super excited for all of the SXSW films you mentioned, Heather. I hope they all get picked up for distribution. I have a ton of films in my watchlist that played at festivals, some three or four years ago, and, sadly, will probably never see the light of day. It's odd to me that this still happens considering the numerous outlets in which a film can be released.

  2. Ugh sometimes I hate Blogspot (I have my own as well, don't mean to attack you for your web hosting choices). Typed out a whole big thing about how I was grateful for you talking about how horror is the only genre which fans have to defend themselves for watching and about what the horror genre means to me (catharsis and confronting you fears and all that nonsense), and it all disappeared when I hit the publish button. Sorry I don't have the time/effort to type it all out again. Great episode as usual. Love these general topic podcasts.

    1. Tip: Sometimes if you hit "refresh" or "back" or "back then refresh" or "refresh then back" and then swear and hit "refresh" again and swear some more and then hit "back then refresh" - SOMETIMES - it magically appears again. I've taken to copying everything I type first because GOD FORBID I lose one brilliant nugget that I'm unable to recall to retype.

  3. Great show I enjoy the horror theme. I wonder how you guys feel about psychological horror movies. I feel that they don't get spoken about much nor is there enough of it, personally I find the scariest as well as more entertaining horror movies are those types. I refer of course to films like Roman Polanski's Rosemary's baby, Repulsion and any other Brian de Palma or Dario Argento earlier works.

  5. I think Heather was right on with her assertion that sound is everything! The way you described going to see Lost Highway was how I felt the first time I saw The Babadook. I kept trying to get friends to go see it again with me because I knew the sound would be way less effective in a bedroom. Unfortunately when I took some friends to a different theater it was quiet and the next auditorium was doing a riff-track on Peanuts specials. Anyway I feel like all my favorite horror movies have really distinctive scores and soundtracks.

  6. I dunno, Heather, from the way you described it, it sounded, to me anyway, like Bruce Campbell was just busting your balls in a good-natured way. Some people are really good at ball-busting, and it's hard to tell if they're being serious or not.

Tom Savini, however, does sound like a dick.
