Love is in the air this weekend.
Part of loving movies is falling in love with the people on screen. So what's the hardest you ever fell? Was it for the actor or the character he/she was playing?
Kate Winslet was one of my first movie crushes. I think it might have been Sense and Sensibility followed by Eternal Sunshine. Plus any interview she does right?
Diane Court (Ione Skye) in Say Anything...Everything about her in that movie was perfect. Maybe the only time I truly fell in love with a character for all the right reasons. God, that smile made me melt. I was always hesitant to watch Ione Skye in other movies, because I didn't want my image of her as Diane Court tarnished.
Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates) in Fast Times At Ridgemont High. I think we all know why she makes my list. She's just so damn cute in that movie and of course the pool scene that caused millions of erections across the world. Well done Mr. Kline (you magnificent bastard). I salute Phoebe (with my hand, of course) and she will always be on my list. It's a shame she never acted much the last couple decades. I've really missed her.
Cherry Valance (Diane Lane) in The Outsiders. I remember watching this movie on HBO over and over again on HBO when I was a kid. I didn't really care about Pony Boy and his gang. I was watching just to get another look at Cherry. Good thing my family didn't have a VCR back in those days...I probably would have never left the house.
I'm also a Diane Court man (and Anonymous, I will kickbox you for her. Sport of the future!) but I would be remiss if I didn't also mention Marty (Natalie Portman) in Beautiful Girls. While I'm sure that answer puts me on a list I very much don't want to be on, I can't help but fall for her a bit every time I see that movie.
Audrey Hepburn-Charade Emma Stone-Easy A Grace Kelly-Rear Window Zooey Deschanel-500 days of summer Phoebe Cates and Jennifer Jason Leigh-Fast Times At Ridgemont High Monique- Better Off Dead Daphne Zuniga-The Sure Thing Jill Banner-Spiderbaby
I also just watched The Godfather again and that chick that Michael marries in Italy is smokin hot.
Emma Stone in Easy A, yes! I crush on Olive as a character too. It's so rare that you get someone so smart in kind of a nerdy way as well as super funny and gorgeous. Sigh.
#1 (although not my first crush) is Sherilyn Fenn - Audrey Horne, hands down. Sherilyn is still my #1 to this day.
Firsts though?
#2- Elizabeth Ann Hulette - Miss Elizabeth WWF - trust me, she was amazing and I would get all googly eyed for her staring at the screen as a child. RIP #3 - Ilene Graff - Marsha Cameron Owens - Mr. Belvedere. Yep, I had a crush on the Mom not the daughter. #4. - Just like everyone else my age - Alyssa Milano - Sam - Who's the Boss
Oddly enough as I write this, I notice there are no movies on this list, only TV. So, moviewise - I guess it would be either Lucinda Dickie - Special K - Breakin', Kerri Green - Andy - The Goonies or Vanity - The Last Dragon.
Kate Beckinsale in Underworld. Yes, I know, these movies aren't very good but they came along when I was just the right age to think they were awesome and Kate is a total bad ass in them so whatever. Besides, I still think the first two have stuff to like about them. The second in particular goes to such crazy places that I think it's a fun ride. Either way, Kate is crazy attractive in them, and she's been my celebrity crush since.
You really have to watch those movies with an understanding of what they're trying to be, and I don't think that should be held against them (even though it definitely is).
Michelle Monaghan in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is the first to come to mind. Thandie Newton in Mission: Impossible 2 was something else. Latest one was probably Maika Monroe in The Guest. Haven't seen It Follows yet. Looking forward to it...
On the TV front, Olivia Munn in The Newsroom, Dichen Lachman in Dollhouse, Connie Booth in Fawlty Towers, Lizzy Caplan in The Class and Angela Featherstone in that one episode of Seinfeld.
One of my first character crushes was Hermione Granger from the first movie onwards. Emma Watson is the same age as me and now she is off changing the world for the better. Another of my first character crushes was Tara Maclay from Buffy. Obviously looking for witch as a future partner.
Me & my friend were huge fans of White Men Can't Jump so we couldn't wait to see Money Train & there she was my first & biggest movie crush Jennifer Lopez. That night I fired up my free AOL dial up & tried to find out who this chick is....sadly I have seen every J. Lo movie & boy a lot are horrible but I watch anyways
You know what Im going with Lea Thompson from BTTF for cuteness and being the only good thing from Howard the Duck (she was hot in that movie!)
For more current ladies I would love to say Eva Green but im kinda afraid she'd either rip my head off or leave me crying in sadness at her eventual suicide. I think I would feel safest with Amy Adams, she just straight up pretty
I can't even describe the effect Star Wars had on me when it premiered the summer I turned 14. Can my first movie crush be on a whole movie? If not, then it was definitely Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Star Wars. Cool, tough, handsome... the girls at my school thought Luke was "cute," but he seemed like just a boy to me. Han was complex, but I knew we would understand each other. Harrison Ford as Han was my main movie crush for five years... until Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard.
This may sound strange and random...but I remember seeing Elizabeth Kaitan as a small role of dead meat in Friday the 13th Part 7, and being completely smitten. I think it's because I've always been into redheads, but never really thought any redhead major actresses too attractive. Now she was never more than a bit actress (and I think somewhat of a softcore performer), but I'll be damned if she isn't cute as hell in The New Blood.
Oo, fun question. I usually fall in love with who I like to believe the actor is in real life based on what I take away from onscreen performances. My sister, in contrast, likes to fall in love with the actual actor - like she judges him on his roles and acting choices and technique. I tell her that's too smart and boring.
Spot Conlon from The Newsies. Because he was the most respected and famous newsie in all of New York! Scrappy badass kid. I recently watched his scenes and am floored by how little substance it took for me and thousands of little girls like me at the time to fall in love with a character. I'm afraid...little girls may be suckers. Super total suckers.
Ewan McGregor in his 90s and early 00s movies. He seemed like a faker. The wild-eyed grins and painful pleasure kisses and charming innocent-kid bad posture. It was all so self aware. So of course I wanted to figure that out because it was charming but pretty evil, too...he presented a challenge basically.
I think Miles Teller comes off as really authentic onscreen; I like him now. But can I say that Leonardo DiCaprio - who is NOT sexy or romantic to me - consistently makes the best love scenes? He has it down. I think he's pretty handsy/grabby, which just looks great onscreen. Where did he learn this. - meredith
Amanda Bearse in Fright Night(1985)- The short 80's haircut really needs to come back.
ReplyDeleteSharni Vinson in You're Next- Horror Chicks who can kick ass are the best!
Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- This is exactly the kind of girl you would meet on a train!
Claudia Cardinale in Once Upon a Time in The West- The ultimate Western Woman. Plus, that bathtub scene!
Kate Winslet was one of my first movie crushes. I think it might have been Sense and Sensibility followed by Eternal Sunshine. Plus any interview she does right?

Elsa Lanchester in The Bride of Frankenstein
ReplyDeleteLaugh if you must, but as of late it is Anna Kendrick, but not in a particular role. She's just cute as a button and I can't resist her.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Connelly - Career Opportunities
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Man, what happened to Connelly?! She's Kate Moss thin now.
DeleteOn second thought, I have a character name in mind for a different actress:
ReplyDeleteMary Jensen (Cameron Diaz) - There's Something About Mary

Forgot a pivotal one from my teenage years: Shannen Doherty in Charmed. Yes, I'd take her over Alyssa Milano any day.
DeleteGood choice I'm strangely attracted to Michelle Monaghan as well.
Delete90210 Shannen? WHOA! Now that's just crazy talk :)
Delete(coming from the guy who had a crush on the Mom from Mr. Belvedere.:P)

Olivia Newton-John in Grease. When she put on those tight black spandex pants, things moved and I became a man.
