  1. Terrific podcast, gentlemen. Loved the chronological week-to-week breakdown of the summer movies early on; too bad that got dropped midway after getting to "Jurassic World" and became a free-for-all. I howled with laughter at Adam stating that "Vacation" would be a movie that Jared Fogle would find enjoyable, which is bittersweet because my father in AZ watched it and thinks it's one of the funniest movies he's ever seen. :-( And thank you, thank you for calling bullshit on "Me, Earl and the Dying Girl" for its characters being alleged film lovers, which their actions in the movie (one of way too many problems) shows them not to be that at all.

Overall, I'm more on Patrick's view of the summer: good but mostly underwhelming. "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" for the win! :-)

    1. Just add Doug in there and we'd have one podcast to rule them all.

  3. Hey guys, great podcast as usual! Sorry I don't drop in to leave comments more often, but I'm still listening every week and loving all of it!

Just wanted to stop in because of JB's comment that theaters just drop their movies every week for whatever's coming out next. This is definitely the rule, but I wanted to point out an exception that really made me happy. One of my two favorite theaters (I'm blessed with six or seven in biking distance) was still showing Mad Max Fury Road until about a week ago. They never dropped it for a single week in almost four months. I patronize them whenever possible.

    1. Theaters have their own movie drop-off percentage sheets they receive from their corporate offices every week. This is another determination as to what movies a theater might drop when new movies come in. The reason why a theater would keep Fury Road so long is because attendance for that movie probably never waned enough to warrant dropping it.

    2. Great podcast, gentlemen. My favorite moment in Fury Road happens just a few minutes after the scene mentioned in the podcast. Max tells Furiosa to go on without him if he doesn't make it back before the truck is ready. She doesn't reply, but the camera holds on her as she internalizes the comment. There are three or four examples of great filmmaking in this section of the movie.

  7. I don't think I ever would have watched Far From the Madding Crowd if not for JB. It is delightful indeed! I highly recommend people take JB's recommendation.

  10. Awesome podcast, listened to it twice, not surprised Patrick didn't enjoy the summer, there really wasn't a whole lot to enjoy if you think about it. Especially if you didn't have fun at Jurassic World, which I did, but not as much as the audience I saw it with, maybe I'm too cynical or pay closer attention to story than most people, I'm not sure. The high points of the summer didn't even come until July and August in the form of Trainwreck and The Gift, while I wait patiently for the End of the Tour to some how be made available to me. I'm trying not to build it up too much, it looks like my kind of movie and I love both Segel and Eisenberg. I've tried avoiding trailers or articles that have anything to do with David Foster Wallace. I want to go in objectively and without expectations, which is so difficult to do nowadays.
