Announcing F This Movie Fest 5!

by Patrick Bromley
Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

On February 13th, F This Movie! is hosting our fifth annual F This Movie Fest celebrating the movies of 1984! There are two Catherine Mary Stewart movies!

If you're new to the site, here's the deal:
1. Secure copies of all five movies! (DVD/Blu-ray, Amazon Instant Video, iTunes rentals, public libraries, etc.)
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter (@fthismovie). If you're not already on Twitter, you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want.
3. Don't quit. Keep following us on Twitter.
4. Beginning at Noon on Saturday, February 13th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest). It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
5. We are not making fun of these movies. We love these movies.
6. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone.

Here's the lineup (all times CST):
Noon
(103 minutes, dir. Nick Castle)

2:15 p.m.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
(118 minutes, dir. Steven Spielberg)

4:35 p.m.
(95 minutes, dir. Thom Eberhardt)

6:30 p.m.
(93 minutes, dir. Walter Hill)

8:30 p.m.
(107 minutes, dir. Ivan Reitman)

How amazing is that lineup?? 1984 was a kick ass year for movies (we'll be celebrating more of them on the site the week leading up to the fest) and these are going to be a blast. We hope that you can all participate, whether you've done it for the last four years or just one year of this will be your first fest ever. Ask anyone -- it's THE MOST FUN.

Times are somewhat approximate. We'll stick close to that schedule, but be sure to wait for the cue from @fthismovie to start each movie.

As is our tradition, we'll be recording a very special episode of the podcast at the end of the fest celebrating the whole day. We're also working on some special surprises to hopefully be revealed soon!

Get the movies, spread the word and GET EXCITED. This is going to be a great day of watching movies with friends. That's why we're all here, right?

  1. Oh god.
I was hoping it would be February 6th.
I don't think I can make it this year!

  2. I'm marginally compelled to learn how to use Twitter and take the day off work.

    1. You should do both of those things. I mean did you see the lineup!?

    2. Yep. Saw three of them in the theater at the age of 5, and Night of the Comet on cable several times a couple years later. Didn't see Streets of Fire until my dad picked it up on dvd.

  3. Whoa! Two movies I haven't seen (Night of the Comet and Streets of Fire) and one I haven't seen since I was a kid (The Last Starfighter). Guess I'll have to start tracking them down.

To those familiar with the movies, should I watch the three I mentioned beforehand or will I enjoy seeing them for the first time during the fest (like I did last year with Snakepuncher... I mean Hard Target)?

    So much excitement!

    1. Personally, I look forward to seeing these two for the first time during the fest. :)

    2. Yeah, I'd save em for the fest - they're both great and though they deserve your full attention, you'll have no trouble Twitter-watching them.

    3. Great, thanks for the advice guys.

  4. The timing couldn't be better for me. Noon CST is 8 pm my time, but I'll be working nights the week leading up to the Fest, so I'll just carry on sleeping in the daytime for the weekend too. It's perfect!

  5. Holy shit this is a great line-up. I love every one of these movies.

  6. Great line-up! A movie I used to love but haven't seen in ages, my favourite Indiana Jones movie (yeah you heard me!), my favourite movie featuring girls just wanna'ing to have fun, my favourite (if not most practical) type of streets and my second favourite kind of bustin'! I'll be there!

  7. I contend that this, my birth year, is one of the best years for movies ever! I am so excited!! :)

  8. Woo hoo! Happy Valentine's Day to us!

  9. Dudes!, this is gonna be a super fun lineup. Can't wait for this year's #snakepunch to reveal itself.

  10. I'm going to try to hop in and out this year. I can't wait.

  11. Hell and damnation, I like this lineup! I've not seen Streets of Fire and haven't seen Temple of Doom in quite a while.

  12. 1984 is my favorite year of movies ever.
    This lineup illustrates why perfectly.
    I cannot WAIT.

  13. I guess I should like... get a twitter account or something...

  14. Alright... I've decided that despite my appalling maths skills I'm gonna do my best to sync the time difference between Sydney and Chicago and get involved with f This Movie Fest. I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen The Last Starfighter, Night of the Comet or Streets of Fire and the trailers look so damn good I can't wait. Not to mention those other two little indie movies on the list....think I've heard of those.

    1. Best of luck making it work. It's a lot of fun.

    2. I'm from Melbourne myself, and failing miserably trying to figure out the time differences!!!! Help me Grant!!!!!!!

    3. Well I've been playing from Brisbane for the last couple of years. 12:00 noon CST Saturday is 4:00am Sunday in Queensland. I suppose you guys in the southern states adjust for daylight savings time (I think you guys are an hour ahead, so start at 5.00 am Sunday 14th Feb).

Also how are you blokes accessing the movies? The combination of iTunes and JB Hi Fi seems to be failing me this year...

    4. Yeah I kinda lucked out with these ones... I've got region one DVD copies of Streets of Fire and Last Starfighter from years ago... although I seem to remember from my days as a JB Dvd Advisor (actual job title!!) that there was once a region 4 Streets of Fire. Not Last Starfighter though. Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters I've got on blu ray and are still easily available.
Night of the Comet is going to be the tough one. Might need to hit up some old local video stores for a VHS copy and hope for the best!!

  15. Does anyone know if any of these movies have different cuts? And which one will they/we be watching?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No alternate cuts for any of them! Whichever one you get will be the right one.

      Delete
  16. Very nice. I only own 3 of them, I need to buy 1 and 4 which I may or may not have seen?

As JB might say "I'm Old and I've seen a lot of movies" it will be like watching them two for the first times. Fun line up, I have confidence in your choices

  17. I'm excited! I haven't seen any of these except Ghostbusters, but I'm hoping that one will become this year's True Romance and instantly become one of my favorite movies ever.

I might have to miss out on Ghostbusters, though, because I'm thinking of going to a 35mm double feature of Annie Hall and The Purple Rose of Cairo in Santa Monica, but I'm sure the community will manage just fine without me for this one movie (somehow).

  18. Crap I think I have to work going to go in and ask off now!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have ordered all but Ghostbusters (which I own) and Doom (which I rented from the library before seeing the line up, spooooky). Yay; movies!

    ReplyDelete
  20. YOU GUYS! Turns out I've never seen Streets of Fire. All this time I've been confusing it with Ringo Lam's City on Fire (which is also a kickass movie). So during the fest, I'll be watching Streets for the first time EVER.

  21. I'm gonna try and make it work from Melbourne, Australia. How can I not, when on any day I could argue that any of The Last Starfighter, Ghostbusters and Streets of Fire could be in my all-time favourite movies list?!?!... Probs should check that my Twitter account is still a thing too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thought I'd join Twitter and join in the fun, turns out I'd joined 6 years ago!! First 2 tweets now! Saving myself for the F Movie folks! Good year to join I reckon, can't wait...

  23. Dang, I was supposed to have this Saturday free, but finally I'll have the kids all day. I love the F this movie community, but I love my kids more! We'll be playing hockey all afternoon (Canada, eh), but probably check in for Ghostbusters, which I've been meaning to show them anyways for some time.
