Hell Yeah, I hope it goes well, I'm here for as much as possible,
ReplyDeleteIt's from 2pm to 7am next day for me, I need caffeine and "Stay awake" pills, I know someone will know what film they are from
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteNo joy here, Technical crap I'm guessing?
ReplyDelete"Tech Issues"
DeleteTechnical difficulties are part of the process, no worries! I didn't realize there was supposed to be a video feed! Cool!
ReplyDeleteMorning!
ReplyDeleteI can't see a way to chat, so I post it here. That Skype alert was hysterical. Adam had a thought and we heard it :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great segment.
Steve, click this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWGZCk-y9Zo Chat is on the right (need to sign in to your Google/YouTube account to participate).
DeleteGoodfellas, can't beat it. Copacabana kitchen scene makes it.... as well as Joe Pesci... Scorsese/Deniro, great duo.
ReplyDeletePatrick, never saw NYPD blue?! Not sure DF is my favorite character actor, but up there!
ReplyDeleteVolume for your podcast friend messages is way low.
ReplyDeleteDisregard. Fixed.
DeleteHey guys! Love the show and tuning in as much as as i can today! Keep at it!
ReplyDeleteGREAT SHOW! Keep going! :)
ReplyDeleteDid someone say Cubs!!!??? Yes!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew where everybody was chatting. Because I have to sit here. But I want to say something. Your kiddos talking and doing that whole thing trying to make it Star Wars was all so beautiful!!!!

DeleteTry this Steve. The chat is below the video.
When you click on the "direct link" link above from a computer (I haven't been able to access the chat from my cell), then it took me to the Live YouTube feed and there is a chat alongside it there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time, Over $7000 raised, well done to you all especially to Patrick, 18 Hours straight, damn, numb bum and soar ears, what a star
ReplyDeletewe had fun in the chat with the video
Brexit got changed to BreXtro
And "Do for it" is a new meme,
Well done to everyone who was part of this and thanks to all who donated there time,
now I need to go and fiddle with some Tech Stuff
It was great. Also who knew we had such a talented musician among us?
DeleteAlso, Patrick seem a little confused towards the end there as to why "Do for it" caught on but I think a lot of us just found it genuinely catchy as opposed to just making fun of a simple slip of the tongue. In an odd way that phrase kind of summed up the mood of the day.
DeleteBy "talented musician", I assume you mean Adam Riske and his rendition of Unchained Melody?
DeleteWell now I do.
DeleteDo For It and all the rest, we were totally just having fun, and laughing with them, not at them. The confusion at the end is quite understandable...they had been going so long. Many thanks to fthismovie crew for the HUGE effort to raise money.
DeleteWhat a huge success guys. I managed to tune in off and on all day here in australia and I can't congratulate everyone enough, be it Patrick, the podcast contributors, the listeners, and those who managed to donate. What a wonderful thing to take this movie loving community and make a difference in a meaningful way.
ReplyDeleteCancer touches everyone at some point, be it directly or indirectly. I remember first being exposed to this horrible thing in 1998. My good high school buddy was diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia. All he wanted to do that year was see the Seinfeld finale and the premiere of the Matrix. He didn't get to do either because of this fucking awful disease. I miss him and think of him often. I know he'd be proud of everyone's effort today.
Bravo everyone. This was really something special.
Best. Day. Ever.
ReplyDeleteI would do for it all over again. What an amazing accomplishment. So much fun!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! Now I have to track down a copy of Black Roses. It was filmed just down the road where I grew up.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! One of the things I really liked about it was the atmosphere of the town!
DeleteSo many memes, so many dick jokes, so many scoldings from Patrick about our dick jokes...
ReplyDeleteListened for as long as I could before passing out. Such a great time. Looking forward to hearing the Daily Dead round table and the JB/Doug wrap-up on the replay.
Great job, everyone!
I don't think Patrick can be applauded enough for last night - both in terms of quality and pure stamina - I only took a few breaks during the first 14 hours and I found it all totally entertaining (and sometimes educating)! The segments with the usual suspects were gold as usual but the celebrity interviews were really something special. You kept it fun and friendly with just the right amount of journalistic discipline to evoke some really interesting discussions - super impressive - you're really good at it.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I got a not undeserved "fuck you" from Patrick at one point in the chat that I hope wasn't serious but to explain: I had just listened to the FTM commentary on Maximum Overdrive during Junesploitation and your hatred for it appeared both fast and furious so I was just saying your suggestion to Joe that you might reevaulate your opinion based on his article was comparable to, um, putting his, um, penis, in your mouth. Funny, right? Look, it was a super blue room I was playing, okay? I apologize, I hope there are no hard feelings and maybe I'm looking to deep into this but a "fuck you" without a winky emoticon or something is cause for concern. Buds?
Anyway, Patrick - amazing, my admiration knows no bounds. FTM Cast & Crew - ditto - you went LIVE and didn't miss a beat. Fellow F-Heads - you're a bunch of filthy, generous animals, you disgust me and I love you.
Same time next weekend?
Don't worry Sol. It's just Canadian humour. The extra u threw him off.
DeleteNo worries, Sol. My response was meant in the same spirit as your original joke. Buds 4 life.
DeleteCongratulations, you absolutely crushed your goal.
ReplyDeleteI was busy most of the day, so I was only able to catch a few snippets here and there. I hope this will be available sometime in the future (hint, hint), if only so that I can hear Riske's now-infamous singing. And Jan. Love it when Jan's on the show.
Thank you, Patrick and FThisMovie for putting on a sucha fun Podcastathon, and all for a good cause. I was touched by Jan's segment and especially those with the family of your friend, Alexa Rodheim. I can imagine it was so much behind-the-scenes work to pull the whole thing off, whew! So impressed that you made it so far without way more technical difficulties.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to get it off my chest that I watched Videodrome a few times last week. I really liked it and found it strangely comforting? Here's why I think I liked it so much, in order of significance (SPOILERS!!): 1) I thought the ending was BEAUTIFUL and spiritual. I realize Cronenberg's belief was that physical death is the absolute end, but well, his whole movie deals with connection, "the tones" of things, "frequencies", and transformation. So it felt natural to interpret the death of Max's body as another transformation. Even James Woods talked about Max's scene watching Niki getting strangled as a catalyst for Max's subsequent "spirituality". I understand the ending could have been interpreted as annihilation by Videodrome, but it just didn't feel that way to me, it didn't have that "tone" :) It felt rather beautiful and hopeful to me, and the movie clearly about life beyond form and structure and even death, even though Cronenberg himself might disagree.
2) Cronenberg's also examining some rules here - like the "medium is the message", and "what you contemplate you become". And those are like cause and effect rules that make sense to me, and make order and make all the things that happen in the movie kind of understandable...and less scary, less "out of left field". Maybe things that are scary are things that are...not well understood?
3) James Woods is SO likable here. The perfect protagonist, and with such transparent and innocent looking eyes.
I watched A Dangerous Method, too, and how dare David Cronenberg change Viggo Mortensen's face. That's criminal. Morally wrong, David Cronenberg! Morally wrong.
Dead Ringers is next on my list!
DeleteSounds like you wanted to get that 'out' of your chest.
DeleteThat is a good interpretation. I never really thought of it past the social commentary it raises of the 80s. Really takes on new meaning when you think about the things he says about media and how it pertains to the technology we have today.
It escaped from my heart.
DeleteTotally- technology now touches everyone everywhere unlike technology in the 80s. Well one thing is - I think technology has changed our buying habits, according to some things I read and my own observation. Kids want to go places, do things, so they can post instagram pictures of their experiences, etc. Experiences are up. Buying things and consumerism - actually going down. That's cool.
I'm so looking forward to future research about the ways technology is changing us, especially children. And the parallel idea to that - "What you contemplate you become" - rather than "HOW you contemplate you become" - interests me even more.

I feel bad for Steve. Sounds like he was talking to himself on this feed:(
ReplyDeletePoor Steve! I hope he found the chat eventually. Anyway, sounds like he got to listen to the podcast, which was the best part of that day.
DeleteNo, best part was raising money, THEN the podcast, then the chat.
DeleteThanks for the attempt at helping me! Turns out the issue wasn't that i was in the wrong spot, but listening throughout the day on my phone. Erika mentioned via FB messenger on Sunday that she couldn't chat on her iPad, only PC. I think I couldn't get the chat because I on my phone... Oh well! It was an awesome day regardless! Congrats to all!
