ReplyDeleteRegarding Black Christmas: One of my favorite sub-genres is Horror films that take place in snow/winter settings. I would say that very few films have been able to replicate the snowy, perfect Christmas atmosphere and maintain a sense of tension pretty much throughout the film without compromising it's pacing. I think that BC is a very classy Horror film which I'm guessing was in no way what the filmmakers were thinking when making it. Clark gives you just enough balance of claustrophobic interior shots matched with the cold exterior, giving you some room to take a breath by taking you outside, even if through a window as he perfectly sets the tone in the opening attic scene. I love this movie too.
Happy Holidays to you both and here's to an awesome 2017.
A surprise Erika appearance can make anybody's day (or any subdued discussion of White Christmas) instantly better. :)
ReplyDeleteI think this episode proves Adam needs to start being on F Everything Shows.
ReplyDeleteWhat attracted you to Collateral Beauty?
DeleteNeither of us knew it at the time, but this is why my mother told me not to use my real name on the internet.
DeleteThat being said, I'm happy to go through the Fresh Prince's filmography with you and give my thoughts. I got nothing on Seven Pounds though. (Except that it's more than enough P for watching Shakma)
You guys do have a great rappaport together
ReplyDeleteI approve of this joke :-) Thanks for listening and happy holidays!
DeleteThanks! You too!
DeleteThat morning zoo routine plays. You should probably shtick with it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Miss Sloane-ism was this (said 100% straight faced):
ReplyDelete"Prison is not so bad if you don't have a penis. We form self groups we don't shank each other."
I might do a Bob Clark Christmas double feature this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna try to convince my girlfriend to watch Black instead of White Christmas while we wrap presents. Also, the first hour of this podcast was just the best - morning zoo for the win! ALSO this podcast marks the first time I've actually been caught up with F This Movie. First episode: F This Summer 2015. Last episode (before this one): Revenge of the Ninja Commentary. I maaaay have been putting that one off lol. I def think you've got a lot better at solo commentaries. Tales of Halloween Commentary is one of my favourite episodes!
ReplyDeleteThe Rogue One of podcasts. Was fine but seemed to miss out on the possible potential. Our Ve. Black Christmas deserves better.
ReplyDeleteSorry gents what I said above was unfair. You were, as always, very entertaining and a bright spot in the week. Apologize for my Scrooge McDuck (work shit put me in the wrong mindset). Also, listened to The Projection Booth episode of The Thing today. PB you brought the thunder and made an amazing episode even better. Cheers and Happy Holidays.
DeleteHappy Holidays to you too :)
DeleteDid you guys like Holiday Inn more than White Christmas, or are they equally dull?
ReplyDeleteI still need to see Holiday Inn. Every time I intend to watch it, I watch White Christmas again.
DeleteHoliday Inn is so much better. It's great.
DeleteAdam, please never stop doing your one-line DVD-cover-bait reviews. Truly hilarious.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt wake up early...for OSCARS!
ReplyDeleteRegarding your best podcast, my favorite is Super 8. I listened to it over a dozen times along with Mad Max: Fury Road, Interstellar, and, more recently, Cloverfield.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching White Christmas again right now. So confused how I feel about it.
ReplyDeleteJust watched Black Christmas and it was just the best! So atmospheric and some class acting as well. Also the abortion motivation was quite interesting. Thanks for bringing it to my attention guys. P.S. the podcast was funny as hell.
ReplyDeleteYou made that up!!
ReplyDeleteWell I thought this was the most adorable podcast so far. Sorry that's not a more...cool compliment. Thanks for helping me through two all-nighters here! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteVistaVision was Paramount's answer to CinemaScope, which I believe was owned by Fox. VistaVision had 35mm film threaded through the camera horizontally, similar to the way IMAX cameras thread 70mm film. So it's widescreen, but not anamorphic like CinemaScope was. It's closer to 16:9 than 2.35:1.
ReplyDeleteI believe the VistaVision process is still in use today by special effects companies, because of the extreme clarity of the image.
