  1. Very happy to see that the attitude towards the Oscars has improved. You went from "Fuck them!" to "Good movies won, and that's good." Much better :)

  2. I always really liked Predators, it was the last time I went to a drive in paired with the A team I think. The direction and action was so clean, very mctiernan as you said.

Also Alice Braga was the Rachel Ticoten of the 2000's.

    1. This Alice Braga observation is the best thing I've seen today. So on point.

    2. I try to be on POINT as much as I can, but I usually end up BREAKing them.

  3. Preditor Committee might be my new favourite thing!!!

  4. I haven't seen Predator or, well - MOST movies, but it was still a fun listen. Also I've been listening to more podcasts lately - and yours is great in production value compared to a lot of others. Even if they're great they're harder to listen to. Maybe they're made in bathrooms and closets.

    1. I appreciate you saying that, as it's an aspect of the podcast I feel insecure about. Especially since we started recording from a bathroom closet.

    2. Yea the bathroom closet sound is kind of charming....but not really. Actually it ruins everything.

    3. The sound quality of the podcast is top notch. I've experimented with a few other podcasts, and the sound quality makes a huge difference in listenability, which led me to switch off a couple of them, irregardless of the content.

You guys have the sound nailed down. Keep it up.

    4. I'd hate to tell you what I get insecure about when I'm in the bathroom closet.

But yeah, the podcast always sounds great. If you really want to get insecure Patrick, know that sometimes I put you guys on when I'm going to sleep.

    5. Do you think Chaybee would listen to this podcast if your sound quality was bad?

Also- other qualities like the pacing and Patrick's way of talking seem to be really listenable. I'm saying this because I love the content on this other, history podcast, but I think both girls are talking a little too fast in addition to having Echo quality sound.

I listen to Ira Glass sometimes when I'm going to sleep. Sorry Patrick! :)

    6. Ha! :) I would listen to Patrick snore if the sound quality was good.

    7. That would require him to sleep and I'm not entirely sure he does given his output of writing and podcasting.

    8. Patrick doesn't sleep. He waits.

Also, I totally feel dumb for forgetting about Bill Paxton in EDGE OF TOMORROW. It is a testament to how much he is a fabric of my movie life, I suppose.

    9. I often listen to old fthismovie podcasts when going to sleep too.

    10. I just want to pipe in and say I'd really appreciate it if the entire FthisMovie team would strive to make each episode a few hours longer. I can no longer bear the feeling of disappointment that overcomes me at the end of each episode.

  5. Paxton gives a charming supporting performance in Edge of Tomorrow. The role is partly comic relief, but the character's dialog is a direct statement of the movie's themes.

  6. I said the exact same thing on Letterboxd about Elijah Wood's character in regards to feeling Napolean Dynamite'ish. I kind of wish his character was written out of the film entirely.

  7. Man I agree SO much about the sword fight with the Yakuza guy. My friends and me were so pumped at the beginning of that fight, how classic Samurai it felt, in the fields akin to something like Harakiri, and then it just fizzled out. But at least it had that moment. I do like the movie a lot, love the scene of the planets reveals, great shot...but I was also bummed on how soon Trejo dies. Also some of the lines Walton Goggins says (mostly about rape) are nutso.

    1. I really liked the sword fight and how it ended. It didn't fizzle out, it ended with each dealing each other a mortal blow. Also, it didn't go on forever, which is more realistic than most sword fights we see in the movies.

    2. I wasnt really wanting realism in this specific moment. But hey, its still a fine scene.

  8. Thanks for the nice podcast. I always love it when Mark Ahn is on. He's a good podcaster, and they tend to do movies that are up my alley.

I love this movie (just watched it last week!). I'm always astounded at how quickly most people write this movie off, often without even having seen it.

Also, glad to hear someone else likes (however hesitantly) the Alien vs. Predator. AvP: Requiem is much better though, so if you liked the 1st (which had a great premise), you should check it out. @ Patrick, you're going to love this, you were worried about a Predator "Queen". Well AvP 2 has a Predalien in it!!!

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Paul.

AVP, for whatever reason, was the shorthand in my circle for a go-to movie where we threw out all expectations for some low-calorie fun. I can't defend the movie, but I do have some fondness for it.

  9. HOW DARE you compare Fantastic Beasts with the quality of Suicide Squad???

Its ok... its ok.... I'm over it.

Just watch it first. Its totally delightful.

    1. You might be the 1st and only person to describe Suicide Squad as "delightful" ;)

  10. I disagree with you guys on the way that the female alice braga was portrayed. At the end Adrian Brody saves her from topher grace, but at the end of the film she saves adrian brody by shooting the predator with her sniper rifle. Without her he would have died.

  11. Great show guys. It's made me want to watch Predators again. Thanks
