Listen to the #ScaryMovieMonth Original Song "That's the Twist!"

The great Erich Asperschlager has done it again!

You all know that Erich Asperschlager is wildly talented. He's a renaissance man, really. You've listened to him on podcasts. You've read his writing. You've heard his incredibly clever pre-recorded bits on a number of our special commemorative episodes. Most recently, you all fell in love with "F This Movie," the original song he wrote and performed to kick off our 400th podcast. "When can I hear more of the sweet sounds of Erich Asperschlager?" you all asked. Well, you had to know it would only be a matter of time, and that Erich would come up with something special for Scary Movie Month. He did not disappoint.

Here's what Erich says about his latest effort:

"Written and recorded to celebrate Scary Movie Month 2017, "That's the Twist!" is a tribute to my favorite scary movie genre: horror anthologies. Bite-sized morsels of terror that always, ALWAYS, end with a twist. That's why I wrote this one in the key of ...EC."

Here's "That's the Twist!," the new original song written and 100% performed by Erich Asperschlager. There's no better way to kick off our favorite month of the year.

Stay tuned to Erich's Soundcloud page for more kickass original music! Just go ahead and bookmark it now. NOW. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, Erich!

Happy Scary Movie Month, everyone!

  1. Haha - that's great Erich! Awesome job, man.

I was thinking that I haven't seen the movies the verses were based on which was cool because I was getting twisted as the song went - but did you actually just make up the stories? If so, I look forward to That's the Twist!, the first horror film adaptation of a song!

  5. Great song, Erich! Out of curiosity, what are using to record on? I just started using Studio One 3 pro after years and years of only recording to analog and I love it. Has made the workflow so much easier for me. (sorry to get all music geeky on here)

    1. Geek on! I'm working in Garageband, and really just trying to figure it out as I go. This is my first real effort to properly mix a song and think about EQ settings and mastering and it's not easy. I watched a ton of YouTube videos about mixing. I'm happy with the results, but I'm hoping I get better at it from here. If not better, then at least quicker. I started this recording project from scratch at least three times.

    2. Wow, for a first effort it sounded fantastic! Levels were good, vocals didn't peak and fit well in the mix and everything was clear.

    3. Thanks! If you have any hot mixing tips I'd love to hear them. I still feel like I'm dragging and clicking stuff without fully understanding what I should be doing.

    4. I guess most importantly is don't overthink it. Give yourself limitations, don't overdo it with the millions of parameters and effects at your disposal. Just get your levels right, allow for -6bd for when you master the track. After you mix (or master), listen to it on normal earbuds that people listen to music on and if it sounds good to you then there you go! Oh, and, compression is overrated. Use it sparingly or you'll crush your song into mush.

  6. People like you make me so upset that I have no musical talent myself, but then I just do some meth to forget my problems and start singing along anyway. Erich, this kicks so much ass.

    1. Cheers! The nice thing about singing on meth is that losing all your teeth provides some really neat acoustic possibilities.

  7. Very very good as always.

I love the sound dancing from left to right in the finale. It's makes me feel kinda schizophrenic with two Erichs in my head. Not a bad thing

    Love it

Ps my real name is Erich

    That's the twist

    2. It's the arguing with each other that is worrying
