  1. This is great! I just yesterday re-listened to CASINO ROYALE, LIVE AND LET DIE, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS & THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN...It was a complete domino effect. Upon clicking onto your site in the hopes of a new podcast... MOONRAKER!!!
I just shouted "YES!" to no one accompanied by a douchey "Fist-pump" motion.
Not the first time my enthusiasm for your show has gotten the best of me.

  2. Yayyy I love Bondcasts. Haven't seen Moonraker since the blu-ray box set came out, but I remember thinking it had some solid jokes and fun action. Among Moore films, it's middle of the road. Not as good as Spy Who Loved Me, but not nearly as boring as Octopussy or Golden Gun.

  3. I'll say this about 'Tomorrow Never Dies'... I have a harder time getting through it than almost any Bond movie. I don't think it's terrible, I think other Bonds are worse, but I always lose interest in it and stop paying attention. But 'The World is Not Enough' I just love!

  4. Isn’t Moonraker and Thunderball adapted from the same book?

And Die Another Day is awesome

    1. No, they're 2 separate books. Except Thunderball stays kind of close to the novel, where Moonraker is more "hey what a title! And space, huh? Neat. Hey, is there any coke left?" And obviously, the female lead in the book isn't named Dr. Holly Goodhead. It's Dr. Holly Greathead, M.E.

    2. Well, the book is always greater.

    3. @Daniel Epler: obviously, but i don't know how to read :)

@Brian Sager: am i thinking of 2 other Bond movies or am i completely inventing this?

    4. Never Say Never Again comes from the same book as Thunderball. Could that be it?

    5. Yup. The movie Never Say Never Again is an unofficial remake of Thunderball.

Great podcast, as usual. Don't leave it another year, guys. I don't want to wait until 2025 before I get to hear Patrick and Mike's take on Octopussy. I genuinely do not know why Patrick dislikes that movie as much as he does. It's pretty awesome, in my humble opinion.

My favourite non-pervy Roger Moore Bond moment is the bit in... um, I don't actually recall which movie it's from* ... where he meets a woman who's passing herself off as a countess or duchess or whatever. She says, "Ooh, me nightie's slipped," or something, and Bond realises she's a commoner (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's a really nice, tender scene. He does eff her, but it's a human eff, not a rapey one.

That scene has always stuck with me.

*It might actually be Octopussy, now that I think about it.

    6. Never Say Never Again is indeed based on the same story as Thunderball, the only Fleming Bond story he co-wrote with someone, Kevin McClory. There's been constant legal battles between McClory and EON (the Bond production company), which resulted in McClory having the rights to use the Bond character, but only in that one story. There was also a big fight over who owns Blofeld and SPECTRE, which were first introduced in Thunderball.

During the Moore era (era), while the court cases were ongoing, EON would've had to pay McClory handsomely to be able to have Blofeld in their movies, which is why Moore kills off a character who looks awfully like Blofeld but is never named at the start of For Your Eyes Only. Broccoli intended that as a big middle finger towards McClory. And when they rebooted the series with Craig, they wanted to use SPECTRE but couldn't because the legal mess was still ongoing, so they came up with Quantum, another criminal organization. Only after Skyfall was the mess settled so they could re-introduce SPECTRE and Blofeld.

And Nonny, I believe that quote is from For Your Eyes Only.

    1. Just calling him Mike is too impersonal. It's like, who is he really? What's he about? Gorilla dicken.

  9. Great podcast guys. I'm gifting myself the Bond box set for Christmas, so hopefully I'll be all caught up in time for the next Bondcast in 12 months time.

  10. My favourite podcast every year when you both do the posh English accents

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'll forgive the accents in this one (Mike sounds like Nigel Tufnel, if anything), but I won't forgive the movie for calling Lois Chiles' character, Dr Holly Goodhead. However, I think that name is topped (???) by Dr Molly Warmflash in The World Is Not Enough. They may as well just have the nerve to call a character Miss Messypussy and be done with it.

  12. Maybe it's Patrick who sounds like Nigel - either way...
