Regarding truck action set-pieces Breakdown has a great one.
ReplyDeleteYeah it does! What ever happened to Jack Noseworthy?
DeleteDon't you remember? Noseworthy died in outerspace near Neptune because (ironically) Kathleen Quinlan couldn't save him from the horrors of the Event Horizon Hell ship! So sad...his career died right there with him.
DeleteBaby Bear!!!!
DeleteThese are the days I wish I lived farther from work so I can just listen to the podcast all in one go!
ReplyDeleteSo for the longest time I kind of laughed off the Marvel Universe. They we're loud, colorful movies with little in the way of artful films that I cared to see. I've come around a bit. In the last little bit I've caught up with most of the movies in the universe barring a few blindspots. I've really enjoyed the first Ironman, Gaurdians of the Galaxy (I kind of wish they were their own thing), Winter Soldier and Ragnarok.
ReplyDeleteI liked a lot about this movie. The Thor and Starlord interaction was my absolute favorite thing though. I can relate to Starlord so much. A guy that wants to be an alpha but no one buys in. Somewhat muscular but "one sandwhsa away from being fat." Also is Groot using his branches to make Thor's new axe the most comic book thing ever?
Like most have pointed out, I was a little worried about all the characters sharing the screen together and they did an excellent job splitting the teams into different set pieces.
So I have to ask, am I just the old man screams at the sky meme for saying I can't stand the CGI?
I'd also like to say this was one of my absolute favorite episodes the site has done.
DeleteI'm with ya, the CG animation of Thanos was terrible, I had the same issue with the Andy Serkis big bad in Last Jedi - I think the character effects of both are jarring.
DeleteOverall I feel like I missed something as I have enjoyed first watches of most Marvel movies but I was bored for most of Infinity War and the deaths seemed to have no emotional impact in the moment - Even Gommora was telegraphed Ala Han in Force Awakens (not sure why I feel the need to compare the two.
That said maybe I was just having a bad day so I do feel compelled to rewatch and reevaluate!
Loved the episode nonetheless, including Charlies' perspective was a nice touch - I watched with my 8 year old nephew, he loved it !
DeleteListening now (and this is a fantastic episode) and Rob D.has the MVP line - "We spend so much time thinking about movies we forget to watch them." There's plenty we could think about and analyze and critique with this movie and there's nothing wrong with that, but it works so incredibly well when you simply watch it (and not in a dismissive "turn your brain off" way) that it's incredible.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure I stole it from somewhere, but thanks!
DeleteFor some reason I can no longer listen. It was working fine earlier today.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode!! I love this format
ReplyDeleteDon't have much to add except you guys are the best and I loved this episode (also, I'd cast Jan as Vision because of her intelligence and also her love for Blade Runner would probably give her an appreciation for being an AI).
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks! I'm in. Also, I'm not sure I'm not already an AI. But doesn't that sense of doubt make me more... human?
DeleteHi there, I'm having trouble downloading this episode on itunes Is anyone else having issues?
ReplyDeleteGreat episode! The format was excellent. I usually dislike podcasts with more than 2-3 people because they often become shouting matches. This was a great way to include multiple voices without it becoming muddled.
ReplyDeleteSpoilers for Thor Ragnarok:
Regarding why Thanos is making his big move only now, I'd speculate that the destruction of Asgard and especially Odin's death has something to do with it. With the great peacekeeper gone, Thanos sees the perfect opportunity to strike.
i love that. there's gotta be a real-world parallel for that somewhere.
Delete'nother great one!
ReplyDeleteI knew it would be an immense juggling act, I was just amazed they pulled it off so well. It was by far the most complicated story they were trying to tell in any of the Avengers films, and somehow they did the best with it. I have my nerd nitpicks of course, like telling us all of Ragnarok means nothing because Thor does need a weapon, and killing off characters they were obviously going to bring back means that most of the deaths in the film have little meaning because there's no bluff. Overall it's not the best of the MCU films, but man did it succeed at juggling a dozen disparate stories so deftly.
ReplyDeletei see what you did there, you did like the movie, each co-host have their own separate moments with the one common thread is you Patrick. you're the Thanos of the FThisMovie universe (the FTMU)
ReplyDeleteas for the movie, i really liked it. i liked that the story was not driven by the action sequences. there's surprisingly not a lot of action scenes in that movie, which is fine by me.
I can't believe us Cade fans were so summarily dismissed (we call ourselves #YeagerMeisters), Awful! #CadeYeager4Prez
ReplyDeleteIs this another Marvel movie review where Patrick bitches about the existence of post-credits sequences, or is it actually bearable?
ReplyDeleteGreat podcast. Large cast, edited superbly. Patrick is king.
