Yes,2 is a bit underrated, there's some great physical stunts in it and the beginning with tc hanging on the rock face set the precedent for him doing actual jaw dropping feats.Sure it's ridiculous but if it's on tv i can easily watch it.
I don't care what anyone says; M:i-2 is awesome! It's a Notorious remake with amazing action, the best female character of the first four movies, Anthony Hopkins, a great score, and isn't some boring, generic, nuke-centric End of the World plot.
To me, the first one is the least of the run, followed by III, which has the great PSH but otherwise, apart from the Vatican infiltration, is too grim to be all that much fun. That said, at least it's not The Mummy (2017)... :P
you mention that Ghost Protocol keeps escalating and not Rogue Nation. that what i like in RN, every setpieces gets smaller and smaller. Start with one of the craziest stunt ever to finally end with simply running around after the bad guy through the streets (i don't remember what city). kind of taking it back to it's source. i love it.
Amazing episode guys, and now all I want to do is rewatch Ghost Protes.
Also, I’ve been listening to several Doug-casts lately because they’re so entertaining, but I’d like to point out I think Doug brings up that he used to think Lethal Weapon 2 was better than Lethal Weapon in every one. ;)
Renner isn't THAT bad. He's nobody's favorite but he works in everything he's in. He was quite charming and funny in American Hustle (Delilah scene). I wouldn't put him in the category of guys that keep failing and getting chances.
Patton couldn't do RN bc of scheduling conflicts.
I still De Palma killed it with his tense, spy-centric version and Rogue Nation sort of toned it back down to that a little.
I thought he was pretty dull in Ghost Protocol, but I really liked him in Rogue Nation. They decided to make him funny in that one and I think it really works.
I may be alone here, but I actually still think the first Mission is my favorite. It's hard to compare a fairly small espionage movie to huge movies like Ghost Protes and Rogue Nation. But it's still the only Mission movie with a pretty tight script. That being said, all 3 are pretty great. 3 is good, but it does kind of indulge in Abrams worst tendencies. Great show guys! I really...doug it.
Of course a Dougcast is two hours and I'm here for every second of it. The twinkle in Patrick and Doug's voices when they're together is something to behold. Great episode.
I've also spent an obscene amount of time worrying about Mr. Cruise's choice of co-leading lady and have decided he tends to choose a female partner he thinks is just on the cusp of A list status, thus giving him credit for their discovery. Follow it back, they're always tough B-list women who have established themselves in some niche genre for something or another, and then bam. Mrs. Mission Impossible. Mrs. Mummy. Mrs. Edge of Tomorrow! Love that guy though. It's him or Denzel for best actor of my lifetime and fuck if cruise might outlast him.
From best to worst

Rogue Nation
Ghost Protes (all 3 great but then...)
2
Three (least cinematic of them all,it's like a tv show episode)
Agree here heavily
DeleteI always thought 3 was a tad overrated and 2 was a tad underrated. Mine (so far) goes like this:
DeleteRN
GP
2
1
3

I love 2 to be fair, El Gaith. ALways thought it was shat on too much. It drags a bit but the action is second to none.

1. Ghost P.
ReplyDelete2. Rogue N.
3. 3
4. 1
5. 2 (this movie sucks)
Doug’s “con-Fede” joke made me spit toothpaste all over my bathroom mirror.

ReplyDeleteAgree. I love the first movie but couldn't get into any of the others.
DeleteLong time listenet but this is a very annoying podcast so far half an hour in and it's painful to listen to with so many unfunny jokes.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, they settle down when they really start talking about the movie
DeleteI'd also be bitter if I grew up with a name like that. Like having a birthday on Christmas. Sorry man.

ReplyDelete@ James: I don't think Emily Blunt was a Niche actor before Edge of Tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteLoved this ep! L.A. Doug simply unlocks another gear in Patrick. Happy to have his dumb jokes fill my ear holes again. Aural happiness.
ReplyDeleteAlso, second episode in a row to mention Rock of Ages...
DeleteAny podcast in which Patrick references Early Edition is a keeper! #KyleChandlerForever
ReplyDeleteI miss Doug so much
