  1. I'd argue The Adventures of Pinocchio has some charm...for those willing to look for it.

  2. I know its not a "hot take" Mike, but I enjoyed you talking some Bergman on the show. I've been loving starting to go through his films too. And you're right, most of them are 90 minutes, which rocks. The Virgin Spring definitely is a good place to start, as it's awesome, but another is Smiles of a Summer Night. That one is really sweet and funny. Love it!

    1. Smiles of a Summer Night is one of the few we've seen! It's great.

    4. Hang on, let me get my thesaurus so I can be sure to use big words.

  3. Will this podcast convince me to sit through a Pierce Brosnan film? Because I'm usually only willing to do that for movies where Robin Williams is wearing a wig and a dress.

    1. Only if you're willing to picture him as a Sleepy Beatle.

    2. He might be a better actor if he WAS asleep!

    3. If you haven't seen him in The Matador and The Thomas Crown Affair, you're missing out.

  4. Man this episode hits all my sweet spots.

Starting at the top, I'd like to offer a lukewarm defense of Friday 6, because it is both my favorite Friday and prob a top 5 slasher for me. I like what I like about it is it limits what I call "fuckin' around time." In most Fridays, even the best ones like 2 and 4, Jason is doing his thing while all the other characters are completely oblivious. They instead spend a lot of screen time...just kinda fuckin' around. This is what kills the first one for me, and 8 prob does it the worst. I also find the characters the most fun in 6, without ever having to resort to the jokester character that most of the early movies have. Even the sheriff, who's basically just there to get in Tommy's way, is kind of hilarious in how aggressively short-tempered he is. I think it's a lot of fun, my apologies for being so long winded.

As for Die Another Day. I rewatched all the Bond movies last summer in an attempt to make my definitive ranking. A lot of it was splitting hairs, but the difference between DAD (hi dad!) and my #23 (A View to a Kill) was like a fucking canyon. I'd argue that not a single aspect of this movie is above average for a Bond movie.

    1. Friday 6 is also my favorite, I came here to defend it as well. :)
It think it's just the most fun entry, and I like that there are actually children at the camp. It adds a little something the others lack. And it has a sense of humor, I've realized lately that my fav horror films are ones that have a sense of fun to them.
      Anyway...love the show.

  5. I enjoy these episodes, sincerely, if for no other reason than the awesome accents!! For that and several other reasons, they're some of the most fun episodes! :)

  7. Ahh, Mike was on. I wanted to hear what he had to say about the final season of Game of Thrones. Shucks!!!!

    1. Oh boy. Whenever Patrick finally gives me the A Song of Ice and Fire podcast everyone wants (no one wants), I'll elaborate more on there. In the meantime I'll say that I thought it was way too rushed, but I wasn't about to sign a petition to have it rewritten/reshot. Also, episode 2 (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) is an all-timer.

    2. So, uh, where do I sign up for the Song of Ice and Fire pod? It will dovetail nicely with BrewersCast.

    3. Mike, out of curiosity, I only have two questions about the final season that I have for you. What did you think of the The Long Night (or why I can't see in the dark) and it's abrupt ending of the Night King story line? Finally, did you believe for a second Dany's turn to the dark side in just two/three episodes?

  8. "Quantum of Solace" is interesting in that it's the only legit sequel in the franchise, taking place minutes after "Casino Royale" and it's quite underrated, IMO. Forster has made some good/great movies: "The Kite Runner" and "Stranger Than Fiction", and I'll throw "Finding Neverland" in there (maybe for the memes)

  9. Die Another Day is one of those movies I've warmed up to over the years. It's not perfect but I enjoy it for its camp value. Alas, I still can't stand that Madonna song.

  10. The Twilight Zone comparison to "I Trapped the Devil" is right on the money. There's an episode with a really similar premise called "The Howling Man."

  11. I enjoy your Bond shows, even if I generally disagree with you guys about Bond movies. (I guess I mostly just disagree when it comes to Pierce Brosnan Bond movies.)

As much as I want to stick up for Die Another Day, about the best I can muster is 'Its not the worst.' I recognize the flaws and utter stupidity of the movie, but I can't help but enjoy it anyway.

    1. Scott what would you say is the worst?

    2. My knee jerk reaction is to say Spectre, because I really didn't enjoy it. But I might need to give it a second viewing before calling it the worst. Instead, I'll say it has to be one of the lesser Moore Bonds, like Moonraker or A View to a Kill.

  12. Is it any surprise Michael Madsen is in this? He has ~300 acting credits to his name (which I recently learned on the WHM Species episode)...it would be easier to guess a movie he wasn't in!

I haven't seen this Bond movie, but very much enjoyed the podcast, as usual. I bought the Bond boxset, but have been holding off on watching them. Eventually, I'll just do a Bond month and watch them all.
