  2. As follow ups go, Quantum of Solace reminded me of how I felt about Batman Returns.I liked some of it but some of it was lacking what was in the predecessor. That being said, I'll take this over Skyfall and Spectre.

    1. I totally agree, Quantum is the second best Craig Bond to me.

  3. I like how you guys talk for 2/3rds of the show about fun things, and then you very reluctantly talk Solace. That said, I actually kind of dig parts of the movie. Weirdly it works better on a small screen, so you can actually fuckin see better what's going on.

    1. Also I missed Lazenby and Moore. I wish they could've been completely baffled by the Quantum.

  4. Yesssss! F! This Bond time! It just makes so much sense to think that this script was just taken from whatever the best unmade action movie was that the studio had and then tweaked it into a Bond flick. I agree that it just has zero Bond feel to it, in any capacity. But, the Tosca sequence, which has always been the film’s gem, is still a pretty darn good action sequence. Separate from the franchise, its okay for just a random action movie, but of course its not, and it will always be disappointing on that level, which yall both said. On my last rewatch, it went from my least fave to my...not least fave. Its definitely better than Spectre.

  5. Until No Time To Die comes out, this episode I believe marks the halfway point of the Bondcasts.

    1. The Living Daylights (November 20, 2013)
    2. GoldenEye (January 29, 2014)
    3. Live and Let Die (June 11, 2014)
    4. Casino Royale (February 18, 2015)
    5. The Man With the Golden Gun (August 5, 2015)
    6. Spectre (November 9, 2015)
    7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (December 14, 2016)
    8. Moonraker (December 13, 2017)
    9. Dr. No (May 16, 2018)
    10. The World is Not Enough (February 13, 2019)
    11. Die Another Day (September 4, 2019)
    12. Quantum of Solace (August 5, 2020)

There's also the Patrick and JB Skyfall episode which I guess is like the F This Movie equivalent of Never Say Never Again. It's got a lot of the right ingredients but it's not really part of the official series. I'd say that you guys should actually do a Never Say Never Again episode but you're at least 7 years out from finishing up the Eon movies.

    What's left:

    From Russia with Love
    Goldfinger
    Thunderball
    You Only Live Twice
    Diamonds Are Forever

    The Spy Who Loved Me
    For Your Eyes Only
    Octopussy
    A View to a Kill

    Licence to Kill

    Tomorrow Never Dies

    Skyfall

    1. This is amazing. Thank you for compiling it! Clearly we need to do these other shows sooner than later.

    2. I was surprised when looking at it like this how much Connery you guys have left.

  6. This is a very fun podcast, even though the only thing I remember about Quantum of Solace is my boredom while watching it.

The Underworld discussion made me laugh, and also reminded me that in 2003 I totally dressed up as Selene (Kate Beckinsale) for Halloween. I am thankful to report no photos of this exist.

I must rush to the defense of Interview With a Vampire, because it's over the top in the best way and Neil Jordan is stealthily climbing to the top of my underrated directors list. Plus the cast is fuckin stacked: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Thandie Newton, Christian Slater, Kirsten Dunst... I mean come on! Also, without this would we have gotten Queen of the Damned, aka a movie where the gorgeous Aaliyah and the gorgeous Stuart Townsend get to be sultry to the sweeet tunes of Disturbed and Korn? I think not.

    1. I definitely need to rewatch IWtV. Maybe we can do a show on it? Or would I have to re-read the book first? Because that's a deal-breaker.

    2. I need a Patrick and Rosalie show on Interview with a Vampire. That movie finally clicked for me on my last viewing about 10 years ago.

    3. Oh I am IN for a show on IWTV! I have not read the book so no need to assign ourselves unnecessary homework.

Um... could we include Queen of the Damned too? If you say no, I will still talk about it so fair warning. LOL!

    4. You have one up on me, Rosalie! I don't even remember anything about it.... only that I watched it! 😆

  7. I just rewatched QoS for the first time since I saw it in theaters, I liked it a lot more this time. I'm about to listen to the pod, but i would say the worst thing this time was Olga's spray on tan and the best was Dominic Greene's crazy eyes. I really liked Skyfall ALOT more on a second watch. I'm still afraid to rewatch Spectre. I still think that will be terrible.

  8. I thought I had only seen Casino Royale and Skyfall (of the Daniel Craig ones), but rewatching this today, much of it was familiar. Wow, this was really from the peak Greengrass shaky cam era. I agree with much of what benpeterson said above, in that it was a pretty good action movie, but didn't feel like Bond in many ways.

There was some weird inconsistencies as well. Like throwing the guy in the dumpster. And I was completely confused by the hotel exploding at the end. It made for a great fire filled set piece, but why was it exploding in the first place? Why was it rigged with explosives, and who put them there? I went back to rewatch, and there is a vehicle that explodes which seems to set everything off, but I'm not sure why the whole complex went up.

  9. I also haven't seen True Romance. I own it, and nearly put it on a few weeks ago. I'm scared at this point that I'll be disappointed, haha. Maybe tonight will be the night, if I don't watch Skyfall.

  10. 1. I'm 39 and my favorite movie is also Lost Boys
    2. The editing in QoS was very odd.
    3. What bothered me most was just how dumb Bond seems to be. He thinks because he can fight his way out of any situation he can act however he wants and collateral damage be damned. A lot more like Jack Reacher in that way, but doesn't work for Bond. Maybe that was the point, in a way, because he's so hurt he's like a child.
