All good. I've listened long enough to know you love music. Interesting point you make though. Are these groups being used for hipster cred or is it filmmakers who grew up on their music being given the chance to showcase it for a new generation. A Tribe Called Quest had their music featured in the Station Eleven miniseries and it was incredibly moving.
Great podcast. My main takeaway from listening to your discussion is realising how few 2023 movies I've actually seen. Out of all the movies mentioned the only ones I've seen are Barbie and The Blackening. I really need to get to see Mission Impossible before it leaves theatres.
Great summer show as always! Have any of you guys seen Hypnotic? It just came out in France (I found out about its existence the day before) and I was amazed to learn that it had actually been released in the States before the summer. I don't recall reading/hearing anything about it. (I personnally found it equally stupid and entertaining and had a pretty great time, 2004-me would have INSTANTLY rented this one on DVD)
LOVED the pod. Hearing all four of you bounce off each other with your own energies - JB's professorial rambles, Adam's grumpy rants, Rob's sly comments and Patrick's dad-like encouragements - brought a lot of joy. (Despite me completely disagreeing with you all on Across the Spider-Verse haha!)
Also, Adam's Indiana Jones "Fabelmans" gag made me snort laugh on the bus.
Finally! Somebody agree with me on The Flash (it was Rob 😜)
ReplyDeleteGreat rant Adam, but that De La Soul dis hurts.
ReplyDeleteI felt that too haha.
DeleteI screwed up. I was thinking of "Can I Kick It" by Tribe Called Quest. Sorry to everyone especially De La Soul.
DeleteEqually painful. F This Movie hip hop heads need love too 😊
DeleteI'll do better. I don't even dislike Tribe Called Quest. I just got tired of animated hipster superheroes appropriating it to look cool.

DeleteJB needs to get a Letterboxd account to log his watched films!
ReplyDeleteSo I might've stumbled on JB's LB profile... 🤔

Whole-heartedly agree with some stuff. Heavily disagree with other stuff.

This was really good, but the best joke involved supple wrists. LOVED THIS EPISODE!!
DeleteYou guys need to watch They Cloned Tyrone. Definitely a favorite of mine this summer.
ReplyDeleteTwitter "machine" and YouTube "machine" - those bits of forced quirk are just as funny the thousandth time that they're beaten into the ground.
ReplyDeleteThe Fast and Furious ride at Universal Orlando is SO BAD. We couldn't stop laughing at how awful it was.
