What did you think of HIM? The previews intrigued me enough, but it got such bad reviews on release that I skipped it in favor of other stuff over the past couple weeks. I haven't heard anything about it from "the people."
I went in blind (no trailers, no idea that it was a Jordan Peele production, etc.) and for 75% thought it was a fun-but-predictable toxic masculinity/fandom sports drama. Then the final 20 mins. happen and wow, hardcore horror true colors revealed. 😱😨🥳 A 2nd viewing knowing what's coming should be fun to spot the hiding-in-plain-sight tea leaves. Wish Peele had directed so it could have been more subtle, but "Him" is well-made Hollywood 'it's fine' mainstream horror with timely social commentary about sports 'braugh' culture. 😎👍
Thanks for your take on it. Sounds like enough of an endorsement that it's worth a watch, so I'll give it a shot sometime (hopefully in its remaining theatrical run, or just at home when it hits streaming)!
For the first time in the 15 years l've participated in Scary Movie Month, l have a TWO-PART SEVEN-WORD REVIEW. You need to read part 1 first followed by part 2. I tried to condense both into a single seven-word review but couldn't make it work. Thanks for understanding. :-P
Joel Schumacher's FLATLINERS (1990, ARROW BLU-RAY}.
Part 1: When they died their corpses defecated, right? Part 2: No wonder they never flatlined Oliver Platt.
I really should get around to watching this. I've always been turned off by the thought of people dancing in the aisles, yelling at the screen and throwing popcorn (and bread?) at each other. It plays nearly every weekend at an indie theatre near me. It's probably a good bit of fun. I mean, it has Tim Curry in it. I think I'll watch it at home though.
