Weekend Weigh-in: What Are You Thankful For This Year?

We are thankful for all of you.

It's still technically Thanksgiving weekend, so let's stick with the theme. A couple readers already started sharing theirs in our staff's thankful list (you guys can copy and paste here or come up with something new if you like), but we wanted to create a separate thread for everyone to chime in and let us know what you're thankful for in 2012. It doesn't have to be movie related -- it could be anything. Let's all appreciate everything.

SUB-weigh-in question -- did you find any movie deals on Black Friday and, if so, what?

  1. I got the Bond 50 Blu-ray set for $99 at amazon this morning (Deal of the Day). Yesterday I got a bunch of Criterions (Cimino's "Heaven's Gate," Pasolini's "Trilogy of Life" Box Set, Godard's "Weekend" on BD and "The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara" Eclipse set on DVD) at an AZ Barnes & Noble with 50% off and a bunch of coupons bringing the price under $100. Then the folks gave me "Puss and Boots 3D," "The Men Who Talked to Goats" and "Sling Blade" BD's as Christmas gifts (even though I don't celebrate it). In a couple of weeks I get my new 58" 21:9 Vizio HDTV delivered.

So yeah, life is good. :-)

    1. That Bond set is a steal -- that's less than $5 a movie. Nice.

    1. I also got Cabin in the Woods on Blu-ray for $8.00 on Amazon. I consider that pretty good for a newer movie.

    2. Ugh, sorry for the multiple posts guys, but I am thankful for more things than I realized. I would like to add that I am grateful for Safety Not Guaranteed for being a pleasant surprise and one of my favorite movies of the year (and making me love Aubrey Plaza).

Finally, I am thankful for F This Movie! for providing entertaining, insightful, humorous and passionate podcast discussions of movies, as well as providing quality blog content day after day. Happy Thanksgiving week, F This Movie!

  3. I bought Alien Anthology last week from Amazon's Month Long Black Friday. I already got my money's worth from it and am not disappointed. I'm thinking I should also buy the Die Hard Series since $20 is worth it for the first one alone.

  5. I'm thankful for the new Tarantino box set which I picked up on Black Friday. The bonus features are exhaustive and non-promotional acting as a career retrospective. The highlights include Pam Grier, Robert Forster, John Travolta etc. talking about how they were approached and their heartfelt feelings about how they felt endebted to Tarantino to do a good job for him. I wish they had more members of his casts chime in (a little odd that Keitel, Thurman, Bell, Madsen e.g. are not included). It's also nice to have all of his movies on Blu-Ray. Since I had most only on DVD it was a good upgrade.

I rewatched Inglorious Basterds and am super impressed with how effortless but excellent that movie is.

I also rewatched Death Proof which is fun but (the extended cut...the Grindhouse cut is better) possibly his most written-feeling and hipster-douchey of his movies although there is a lot to like (e.g. Kurt Russell, Zoe Bell, the car chases, special effects, locations). I think this movie almost feels like a purge of Tarantino's bad habits (which are few). It's also interesting because as much as Grindhouse was a financial disappointment it really spawned an entire era of exploitation cinema in the indie market and on DVD/Blu-Ray.

  6. I'm thankful for my family and friends. It's been an up and down year, especially for my wife's family. But I guess it makes us stronger.

Movies have always been an escape for me and I'm thankful for F This Movie! and the crew for putting out a great show everytime!
