Announcing F This Movie Fest 3!

Your favorite thing is back!

On February 15th, F This Movie! is hosting the third annual F This Movie Fest -- the world's only all-Twitter film festival. As many of you correctly guessed, this year we celebrate the films of 1985.

If you're new to the site, here's the deal:
1. Secure copies of all five movies.
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter. If you're not already on Twitter, you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want.
3. Beginning at Noon on Saturday, February 15th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest). It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
4. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone. Those of you who last through the whole festival should be honored on the podcast we traditionally record at the end of the fest.

Here's the lineup (all times CST):

Noon
Dir. Tim Burton/90 minutes

2 p.m.
Dir. Mark L. Lester/90 minutes

4 p.m.
Dir. Joe Dante/106 minutes

6:15 p.m.
Dir. Richard Donner/114 minutes

8:30 p.m.
Dir. Robert Zemeckis/116 minutes

All times are approximate and the order (NOT the lineup) is subject to change. We have plans that may require moving some things around.

1985 was a terrific year for movies, so for this year's fest we mixed some popular favorites in with our own favorites from that year. Several of the titles you should already have as a movie fan with any self respect. All are available to rent or buy on Amazon Instant Video; The Goonies is currently free for those with Amazon Prime. If you're a Netflix subscriber, Explorers is available to stream as of this posting (but don't count on it, as their titles come and go without warning).

Complaints about the lineup? Keep them to yourself and repeat after me: We Know What We're Doing.

Ask anyone who has participated in the past -- this is one of the best things we do here at F This Movie! and has been a complete blast the last two years. We all want this year's to be the biggest and best yet, so we'd love as many people to join us as possible. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell Zöe Bell.

We're less than a month away. Start getting excited! I CAN'T WAIT!!

This is going to be great!

A Note to all internationalists, be sure to use Blu Rays or digital copies, NOT DVDs. Different regions of dvds play at different speeds, while all blu rays and (im pretty sure) digital downloads/streaming play at the same speed as US Blurays and DVDs. (while im sure Patrick loves to be asked 10 times during a movie what bit he is up to, I might try to avoid it this year).

Also, what time zone are we looking at here, Chicago?

    1. Yeah. My move last year put me in an even worse time zone than before. I'll be trying to make Goonies but I'm likely to only make BTTF. #sadface

  2. Super excited, and great lineup! Just FYI you wrote 18th in the article instead of 15th. Can't wait to watch COMMANDO with a crowd!

  4. Fired up! This will be my first F Fest. I tried Junesploitation but had to bail, I killed it with scary movie month, and now definitely going to try and make all 5 of these!

  5. Two new-to-me movies ("Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and "Explorers"), one that I saw so long ago I barely remember it ("Goonies") and two 80's classics. Only own though ("BTTF") so will have to stream the other four, no biggie.

    1. Well, with the "Complaints about the lineup? Keep them to yourself" warning it's not like we had a choice, did we? :-P

  7. This is my superbowl. This is my oscars (since turning my back on it as of last year).

Great call! You DO know what you're doing!!

I love that we've got recorded favs along with recorded dislikes. Great mix. Hard year to pick actually. ALL MOVIES came out that year.

  8. With the exception of Commando these are all some of the favorite movies of my eight year old self. I have seen them all dozens of times, but have not revisited a few of them in ages. Should be interesting.

  10. I love The Goonies. I am aware how cool it has become to hate it now that we are grown, but no.

I love it. Not as militantly as I did at ten, but still. It continues to make me happy to this day...which is a worthwhile endeavor, to be sure.

  11. Never seen COMMANDO, but I know all the one liners from it. I can't wait to see what I'm sure will be the thoughtful narrative that contains those poetic utterances.
