  1. I love the massacre podcast and I'm so jealous that there isn't a 24 hour horror screening in my area. I've tried doing my own in my living room but I never have to discipline to stick with it.

Patrick the crazy vocal cord death is in day of the dead, an awesome brutal death in a great movie. I recently watched exorcist 3 for the first time and I got so pissed because the first jump scare in that scene of the movie totally got me and I thought THAT was the famous jump scare so I paused the movie and hopped on my phone to read people's reactions to it and I found out that it wasn't the famous scare in the movie and that if I'd waited 1 minute longer I would've had an even better scare and it totally got spoiled for me. It's my own dumb fault but I got very depressed after that. Anyways thanks for the podcast guys, these are always great.

  2. Interesting, I was planning to do a marathon of my own, and was considering inserting The Uninvited and/or The Innocents into the line-up. I've heard mixed things about the former, so I may drop that one. Sounds like you don't love it either, Patrick, so that is further solidifying my decision.

You're welcome, JB! Scary Movie Month wouldn't be the same without your opinions and expertise on the subject of horror! You are an invaluable part of the month and it's a pleasure to share it with you, as well!

Thanks for doing always doing this, guys! Your determination and willingness to sacrifice most of a good night's sleep is always very appreciated!

  3. On Saturday it was raining at home. I was not working so I had a lazy day and managed 5 movies for #ScaryMovieMonth. I thought it was a good days film watching. I now feel ashamed. ;) I litterally don't know how you do it. Redbull and those Stay Awake pills they take in the Freddy films is all I can think.
Looking forward to the podcast. Cheers Patrick And J-Bones. Amazing

  4. Dear Patrick:

Let me know when you want to schedule the fist fight we're going to have over the last 30 seconds of "Magic"...

    1. The stuff with Ann-Margret? You're good with that?

    2. Yes, I am. And not just because William Goldberg wrote the screenplay based on his novel which ends the same way.

MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!! (go see the movie)

You said yourself that the director, writer and recognizable stars all made this movie a cut above the usual slasher flick. And I say that the way the script treats the characters does that as well.

These characters are not the usual "slasher fodder" or "The Shape At The Top of the Stairs". Corky - despite Fats - is a sympathetic character. Even when he's cleaning up the deaths it's because he thinks without Fats he'll become "invisible" again. You get to like him and hope that maybe things will work out for him somehow. Same with Peg and even her husband...they're three dimensional people.

Showing Peg outside the cabin shows not only that she's alive but that she's forgiven Corky and still in love with him. She's happy and looking forward to her future with him. And we know that in a minute or two when she goes into the cabin and finds Corky (and then what happened to her husband, etc) all of that will be destroyed. It's not just horrible but tragic. Something most of these movies don't have because you don't care about the characters.

And that's what the coda to that movie is all about, Charlie Brown.

  5. I just re-watched The Unknown last night, I was wondering what the opinions of some other people might be about it. Now I know.

  6. Nice podcast, as usual, though both Patrick and JB sound like they're sick of the whole thing by the end. Have you guys thought of dividing The Massacres (either one) between several members of the team to ease your load? Like JB does the first four movies, Adam the next four, Patrick takes another batch and so on and so forth. This way all the movies get the benefit of fresh eyes/perspectives instead of the latter movies suffering from the exhaustion that Patrick mentions when the Italian flicks hit at 3AM. Heck, for this podcast there's a huge gap for the Massacre Movies that JB skipped when he left the theater to go to Patrick's basement. Couldn't have Riske or another F-head present chimed in on those movies for completeness' sake?

Wish there was a 24-hour (or even half-a-day) movie marathon in NYC, I'd like to test my endurance and sanity the way you guys do year after year. The closest we have is Nitehawk's "A Night To Dismember" all-night thing on the 31st. Great line-up: "Evil Dead II," "Bride of Frankenstein," "Friday: The 13th Part 2," "Dracula: Prince of Darkness" and "Return of the Living Dead." :-)

    1. I must say I like this idea, and while I appreciate what you guys do, it does feel incomplete when there's only one person who has to skip a chunk of the movies. Who knows what sort of interesting or funny stuff could have happened during those screenings. If you can't do it, then you can't do it, and that's understandable, but the tag-team approach is one worth considering.

    2. Just so I'm understanding...we've done 24-hour marathon shows for five years, but we're not quite doing enough because now we're not covering the entirety of two separate 24-hour marathons?

    3. That's making it sound a little harsher than I think either of us meant it to sound. I think it's just a suggestion of adding a third participant to the mix to pick up where one left off in the official Massacre if they have to/want to leave. I apologize if this comes off as sounding greedy. You guys do great things as it is.

  7. Brilliant podcast as always. The theatre of my mind.

Please put up the link to the song mentioned to all the monsters living together in one town

Like I already said 5 0r 6 movies and im done. Great work. I like the idea of Italian midnight films. Because most Argento type stuff feels like a dream anyway. Ive watched a few recently and I noticed this one thing. Italian women dont wear Bra's!

  9. Great podcast guys, I won't try to comment on all the movies mentioned - I haven't even seen most of them (but loved hearing about them) - but I have to say, though I'm sorry for the tragic aspect, the Shit List story is one of the funniest I've heard in awhile.

  10. I've been to 5 straight massacres until this year. JB, you might of noticed Jason and I were missing this year. We're the guys usually right behind you in line. Anyway, we attempted to attend a 24 hour marathon in Columbus just to mix things up and because of the lineup they had. NEVER AGAIN. I won't give you all of the details, but it was a shit storm of horrible people and it wasn't well run. We bailed early to go have beer and blow off some steam. We left halfway through and it was already about 2 hours behind! I love the Massacre and am even more thankful. Rusty and co. know how to do it. Anyway, sounds like the Massacre wasn't necessarily perfect this year but overall I would wager its the better than most horror marathons. Yet, it will never be the same since it's no longer at the Music Box.

  11. Well, at least you tried something different? Yes, this serves to remind me how annoying my quibbling might actually be-- I should just shut the fuck up and ENJOY THE MOVIES!
