Thanks

Like Jerry Maguire says: I'm grateful for you.

It's Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to take a minute and give my thanks to all of you, the regular readers of F This Movie!, who make all this worth doing.

We're about 3/4 of the way through our fifth (!) year at FTM, and I think it might be safe to say we wouldn't have made it past a year if not for all of you. While I love to write and talk about movies, there's only so long you can shout into the void before you give up. Luckily, we didn't have to. All of you shouted back.

I say it all the time, but I couldn't be more in love with our community -- a group of intelligent, funny, kind, respectful and passionate movie lovers who are willing to hear all opinions and give almost any movie a chance if someone champions it. Every day I'm excited to publish new content because rather than offering the FINAL WORD on a movie, it's just the beginning of the conversation. Engaging with all of you and bouncing ideas off one another is the best part of the process.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year (site-wise, that is; of course I'm thankful for my family and my [failing] health and BLAH BLAH BLAH). We had our best-ever F This Movie Fest in February and our best-ever #ScaryMovieMonth in October. Doug moved out to California (which was sad) but remains just as involved and integral to FTM as ever, maybe even more (which is happy). He even started writing a new column. Melissa Henderson joined the site as a regular contributor, offering a perspective both ladylike and Canadian (she's hours away from getting married, so everyone congratulate her). Mike and Adam Thas launched Growing Up Nerdy, making all of our Fridays better. It's been a good year, and it's not over yet.

So thank you. Thank you, thank you. I try to show my appreciation as much as possible and keep the site a friendly, welcoming place, but I honestly don't think I can ever say it enough. This site wouldn't exist without all of you reading, listening, commenting, sharing, briefly napping, and reading again.

I'm thankful that I get to run a site with all of my friends, but I'm even more thankful for all the new friends I've made in the process. That's you guys.

You're the best. Happy Thanksgiving.

  2. Thank YOU guys for bringing so much wonderful wit and intelligence and fun into the world. Everyone's sense of respect for different tastes and ability to discuss it all in a civilized manner is one of the myriad of things that truly sets this community apart from so many others. My thanks appreciation to every single person affiliated with this site, podcasters and commenters alike. You all truly bring a ton of joy and laughter and happiness into my life!

    Gobble, gobble, mother fucker!

  3. Back at you, Patrick and a happy American Thanksgiving to all you Yankee F'ers and F-Heads. Very thankful for this site of course and it's been a joy to watch it grow over the years.

On a side-note I wanted to mention how great an idea your new (ish? - not sure when it was added) tagline of "Movie Love for Movie Lovers Is" - I've thought for awhile now (since back when Scott Weinberg made a snarky comment during an F This Movie Fest) that the name of the podcast/site - which I love - might at face value deter people who think it's a site for Movie Hate (which I hate). Hopefully it helps to change that misconception because it certainly couldn't be further from the truth!

    2. Thanks for calling attention to that, TH. That was the idea. I like the name of the site because it's fun and (I think) funny, but it can be misleading to someone who doesn't know what we're about. I really appreciate you getting that and taking notice. Happy Canadiansgiving.

    3. I agree with Sol I really love that new moto. I really think that is what you're about and all of you are always so respectful to each other and the movie you are talking about. You guys are the best! (Also congrats on the new and very appropriate sponsor!) I think what you guys addressed in this podcast also incorporates that. It is about favourites with you guys, which is so much more earnest and interesting to read and hear about. It also turns us all to so many great movies! I really appreciate all of that very much :)

  5. What can we do. The old term The Champion of the Ambitious failure cant be used anymore. You may have to think of a new one. ;)

Big love to everyone on the website. This is a great friendly community of film lovers. I have not met any of you but I feel I know a lot of you from the podcasts and comments and ive enjoyed all the banter.
    Happy Thanksgiving to you all

  6. A great big cornucopia full of thanks to everybody! Whether you write for the site, whether you've commented once or commented thousands of times, even if you're reading this and you've never commented, you're still part of the best damn group of movie lovers on the entire movie lovin' internet. Thank you, everybody. This place is the BEST.

F everyone! (I mean that in the nicest respect)

  8. Thanks to all at F This movie! I do like the new tagline although I'll never forget "because sometimes you're all F This Movie! and sometimes you're all F! This movie" (maybe backwards?) either way, that's what brought me here years ago and I love how the site keeps growing and growing with awesome insight and awesome people.

    1. I like the old tagline, too. We just wanted to be sure that people not willing to read that far would get what we're about. Thanks so much for being part of the site, Chaybee. It's always awesome talking about movies with you -- especially all the indie horror I can count on you having seen.

    2. Thanks so much, Patrick! Awesome to talk movies with everyone on here too! As I have mentioned before, This is the most respectable community of movie lovers online that I have found. Every other site is all trolling and people who just want to talk shit. This site - I actually get turned onto things I would never spend my time on, sometimes simply because it's presented in an unbiased fashion. Great job to all!

  10. Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to have stumbled onto the podcast when you were first starting out. No joke I now look forward to hearing the opinions of the F This Movie staff (and other F Heads) as much as I used to look forward to hearing Roger Ebert's opinions.

  11. If I were American I'd say Thank You, but I'm not so instead I'll just say: You're Welcome, I am pretty cool.

But seriously, this thread is reminding me of the Post-F this Movie Fest Love-Fest, which is again filling me with all sorts of warm and fuzzys, and after the week I've had that is something I'm very thankful for.
Sending my movie love out to all the other movie lovers. PB, you tha man. thanks.

  13. Thank you so much F This Movie! Thank you for helping me get into horror movies, introducing me to tons of other movie lovers across the world, and always listening to the tidbits of opinion I have to throw into the pot. It means so much to know there's always at least one spot I can turn to to rationally discuss any movie I feel like. You're all the greatest and I'm looking forward to another five F'ing years.

  14. I have only known about you guys for a few months now but I am extremely thankful that I found F This Movie. This website has helped me rediscover my passion and love for movies. Your podcasts have been a godsend at work and it makes me sad that I have almost exhausted the archives.
Also, it's nice to see a comment section on the internet that isn't full of hate and vitriol towards other people.
    Thank you, F This Movie
